I think most of us have settled on two 2nds for strome and not a first.

As to the Canucks trade...

It doesn't give us cap freedom, which is all we care about. When sutter is healthy, he is undeniably the better player in this deal. On top of that he's the stereotypical locker room guy. We are only moving from him if it's of obvious aid to our cap picture.

Given the difference though, if you retained on Smith something could come of this, given that there's loads of cap here.

Weird....I thought you guys thought that Ylonen was good?

Pajuniemi more than doubled Ylonen's goals and almost doubled his points in 4 less games... He'd be Montreal's 3rd best prospect behind Caufield and Romonov.

Howden at this point has a bit more value than Poehling.

I mean it's clear you value Domi really highly (you in particular value him more than Suzuki lol: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1575957)

The value listed here is equal to a late 1st +. I'd say that's about where Domi is. It's OK to disagree.

I like Domi because he can easily move to wing.... If Kakko or Kravtsov isn't ready for top 6 mins, Domi moves to wing opposite Panarin. Chytil takes that C spot.

That's cool. Minnesota makes a lot of sense for a young cost controlled C. Koivu gone this year. Staal next. Ek doesn't really have the offense to produce in the top 6. Donato has pretty much moved to wing permanently and Kunin doesn't look like he can handle C defensively.

Hence where Strome could really help you guys since your need for a top 6 C is obvious especially to distribute to guys like Kaprizov and Fiala.

the contract quote is from Evolving Wild. They predicted 90% of all RFA's and UFA's within 500k last year regardless of term. If you want to send them an email and tell them they're wrong you can reach them at evolvingwild at gmail dot com.

Curious what metrics you prefer.... his +5 CF% REL. Being top 10 in the Liiga in individual shot generation as a 20 year old? What's your preferred method of player evaluation? If you want tape, here ya go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA9G5Lw5io0

I mean it's really just because we have SO many good RW's. Kakko, Buchnevich, Kravtsov, Gauthier. All those guys are going to need top 9 minutes. Same thing at Goalie or LHD. There's just so much high ceiling prospect depth.

tbh, we don't need Domi. it was just fun to see what was out there. you can keep him.

Evolving wild said was projected on making 3 million. He’s one of the best 4th line centers in the league.

I agree but I don't think Strome is a top 6 C. He had amazing chemistry with Panarin and he wouldn't have that on the Wild. I'd rather move Dumba or Brodin and get someone younger who didn't have an elite winger propping up his numbers

I think you may have misunderstood.

MTL doesn't want to trade Domi for futures. If he is to be traded there has to be a comparable player coming back, more like a 1 for 1 deal. The offer you proposed is just not what MTL is looking for to move Domi.

As you said it's ok to disagree but more certainty is required in a Domi trade imo.

Gotcha, It's tough to gauge where Habs are in their process. They're not quite in a cup window and definitely not in a rebuild. They're pretty tightly in that dreaded fighting for 8th seed no-man's land. From afar, they're a great 5v5 team with ****ty special teams and unfortunately a vastly underperforming goalie that most Habs fans don't want to address. I'd figure the wise move would be to either
a) double down and go for a cup by trading futures
b) sell off Tatar, Armia, Petry and others and try and build a new core that can compete for a playoff spot in 2-3 years.

But riding out this middle ground isn't going to work out

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. Although from my perspective the defense is more at fault than goaltending the rest is spot on.

I think Bergevin sees it as status quo for the playoffs this season and beginning of next hoping that some of the young guys give us a boost like Suzuki did this season. If they aren't ready then he'll definitely go into sell mode by January.
