Description
This summer makes the most sense to move on from him. Can't think of a specific area that the Flames have a huge need, so I'm fine with picks or players coming back, it's your call.

engvall is overrated. he doesn't belong outside of the fourth line. He cooled off quite quickly after exploding out of the gates.

Yeah but he is a good 4th liner, an excellent penalty killer, and he can throw the body. He is better then Clifford and cheaper then Clifford imo.

Nothing is definite but from what I know, the highest possibility is him staying.

I doubt Dubas is dumb enough to move down 30 spots for a 4th liner

Well we also have Korshkov. He's a big 6'4 power forward who can throw the body and put the puck in the net.

If we move Kerfoot then for sure we make that trade, but there's no way we have a winger spot for him with Barabanov, Robertson, Korshkov, Gauthier, and Brooks all looking NHL ready.

I find it hard to see a team giving just picks for Johnsson. To me it seems more logical that a Bennett type player is the return... someone on lower cap who also had a down year looking to bounce back.

Robertson likely remains out of the NHL... Brooks seems better suited in the AHL. Gauthier and Engvall can fight for 4C, or if Engvall plays wing it's between him and Korshkov. The only player that MIGHT be able to take in the 3rd line role of these guys is Barabanov, and he is still kinda questionable to me.

Robertson looks very promising. All reports say he is almost NHL ready, just depends on if he does well in the playoffs. If he plays another year in the OHL he will absolutely destroy everyone. At least 70g 120p.

Is it dumb to sign a guy who made the team better overall, more physical, more battling, more motivated and who Dubas himself reffered to as "the type of guy that is extremely hard to get"? Because I dont think so.. the thing about Clifford is that he isnt just "4th liner"..

Kamenev/Werner + 3rd for Bennett.

Alternatively I'd also think about Bennett + 3rd for Jost. I think Jost has shown more versatility in that he's defensively responsible and can play center, but I do like Bennett's physicality as well. Realistically Bennett isn't really a need though so I wouldn't really dwell on it.

Bennett for Johnsson IS pretty much a straight up deal for a few reasons.

1) It shoulf not be a secret the Leafs are shopping him (or Kerfoot, Kappy 😡) to shed cap. This will impact value.

2) Bennett's game involves jam and tenacity. Although his regular seasons are meh, he his gold in the playoffs..... and the last time the Leafs won a playoff round was.....????

3) Bennett can in fact play all 3 foward positions. We can argue about how well, but in a pinch he certainly can.

4) Undoubtedly, Johnsson will be an offensive upgrade for Calgary, but Treveling also values a level of toughness on his team - he in on record saying so; and this is evidenced by his attempt at Kadri, amd his acquisition of Lucic.

5) Back to Johnsson's offensive. He and Magnipane can fight for 2nd line minutes. Johnsson is capable, Bennett never could do it.

Both players bring different skills sets, and bith players meet the needs to the clubs respectively. Anyone who suggests a pick can be had with Bennett, I would counter argue with, "Bennett and Kapanen on your third line are going to be very difficult to play against". Which is very true. Johnsson's offensive game is offset by a Leaf need to shed a few bucks and add a Bennett element.

I see it as straight up.

The last time the flames won a playoff series was when Bennet was rookie , to say he's "gold" in the playoffs is a little weak - he's a 30 pt 3rd liner who can throw a check that's it - at 300+ games played we know what Bennet is their is no upside or will get better he is a good versatile 30pt 3rd liner

I also absolutely agree it's a straight up player for player swap with Johnsson and Bennet

Johnsson for Bennett, but Leafs would probably want retention. If Calgary isn't willing to retain because of cap concerns, involve a third party that wouldn't mind adding a 4th for taking on some cap - Calgary sends the pick.

He kind of is though... I honestly do think the Leafs might re-sign him if it's cheap, and I wouldn't be entirely opposed to that, but he's a 4th liner (a good one) with intangibles, not much more.

Neither SoCal team is interested in him. If there's one thing we have, it's bottom 6 forwards in plentitude.

I don't want Johnsson. Coming off a serious knee injury, and if there's one thing the Flames don't need it's more LHS LW. Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Dube, Lucic and Pelletier have that position locked down for at least two seasons
