I dont see many teams signing him longer than 3 years. He will be 33 at the end of his contract. Thats old for a goaltender and with the possibility of his play faltering as he ages I have a feeling Dubas will target someone else.

Well, you only covered half of what I covered and the rest contradicts what I said. You said they massively upgrade in center and right wing. Couturier is the better center. You're right that we upgrade in right wing even though we don't need any more right wings. Niskanen isn't a cap dump. You're right when you said Hart is the piece that the Flyers have been looking for.

I stopped reading at Tavares is a massive upgrade on Coots. Some folk need to watch other teams play more often.

I didn't say Niskanen is a cap dump, he would look like it in that deal. Given the depth of Philly's RD, I would argue he could be moved. Would I? Probably not. But the depth is there to do it.

As of right now? Couturier is better. In the past? Tavares was better.

I get that Couturier was on pace for 70 points this year and Tavares was on pace for 78. However, Tavares gets to play with elite talent on his powerplay unit. The powerplay of the Flyers doesn't have the same talent. The more important factor should be Couturier's defensive play. He should be a finalist for the Selke award this year. That outweighs having lower production than Tavares. That should should settle the argument.

I'll say it again. In the construct of that deal, yes he is. Otherwise it's Myers. That would be 100% the preference from a Leafs point of view. No need for a 33 year old defenseman. So short of the Flyers needing to move cap in the deal as presented, cap dump. What do you call the Niskanen for Gudas deal if your were Washington a couple years ago? An upgrade?

Not so clueless to know Sanhiem can play RD. That is a significant ommission on your part. May not be where you want him, but he plays it, and plays it exceedingly well. And that's not likely to change any time soon with Morin coming in the left side.

Not so clueless to say Couturier is a better centreman than Tavares either. Here's the difference: Tavares can carry his own line. He played with questionable wingers in Long Island and put up numbers. Those teams sucked. Couturier didn't put anything close to Taveres numbers up until he started playing with Giroux on a regular basis. Before that, he was a solid 2C.
