San Jose would be paying you to take him. At least a 1st and a good prospect and maybe even a roster player. Labanc, 2022 1st (top 10 protected), Merkley/ Blichfeld

Yeah I know Toews is still better but asking Suzuki even one for one is Gomez vs McDonagh 2.0

Suzuki start on a 4th line playing with Thompson and isn’t playing with Kane + he’s 20 yo Toews is old and slowing down.

I agree. toews may be better, but he still doesn't make the habs a true contender. better to keep the 20 year old.

not really. Toews hasnt showed any signs of slowing down apart from one bad season when the Hawks were performing at their worst as a whole. He doesnt play on a line with Kane and drives his own line. He just turned 32 and is a big fitness freak who still probably has like 5 good years left

I agree entirely. I don't think its worth it for them to trade for Toews because he doesn't fit with their timeline. But if you want Toews, this isn't what is gonna get him

Nice try, I wouldn’t trade Suzuki for any of your player ( only Kane ) not Boqvist Dach DeBrincat, no one is worth Suzuki for MTL right now. So Toews isn’t interesting

like I said above, I agree that montreal shouldnt trade for him. He doesn't fit with the timeline at all. There is a bright group of prospects coming and MTL is gonna be a contender in a few years time. I am just saying if you want Toews, it is going to cost a lot to pry him away and it is signaling a rebuild in Chicago.

I also went back and compared him to Max Pacioretty in the season he was traded to Vegas. He had 37 points in 64 games at 29 years old, a steep drop from his 67 points in 81 games the year prior for a player who was supposed to be hitting his prime. This season, Toews had 60 points in 70 games at 31/32, a slight dip in his PPG production from last season, but not drastic enough to assume he is slowing down. Toews also plays center, was a captain on 3 cup winning teams, while Pacioretty had Captained the team to a couple conference finals himself. For simplicity's sake I will call it even and say Tatar + Vegas 2nd rounder is worth a 1st, that is the kind of return Toews would get, still having 2 seasons of him under contract and plenty of time to negotiate the next contract. Again, not that MTL should trade Suzuki because he will be there when they are back in the race, that is the kind of return Toews would get.

Suzuki was a good prospect, now he is more than a prospect, he was our 2C and he moved Domi to 3C as a rookie. He has Elite potential. For Pacioretty, he was a top5 goals scorer in the last 5 years or something like that + it came with an extention when he was 29 yo if I’m right

the season he was traded he only had 17 goals in 64 games, a rate of 22 goals over a full season. Toews is also a center, a premium position, kills penalties, plays defense, etc

LMAO when Suzuki scores above 50 points and breaks 25 goals next season at the age of 21 or the season after at the age of 22, then MAYBE you can start comparing him to what DeBrincat did at 19 and 20 years old. I'm also willing to bet, Dach becomes a more dominant all around player then Suzuki....very different players but Dach will be more dominant all around like Toews whereas Suzuki will play more of a point scoring role.

and i agree with what you're saying. I just kind of simplified it down because of all those moving parts outside of points and age. While Suzuki is better than what he was, Toews is better than Pacioretty when he was traded.

Toews is better than Suzuki it’s not close. I also don’t think nick will ever reach toews levels. That being said for obvious reasons Habs don’t make the trade. Toews is 32 and is making 10.5 million dollars to move them from 8 from the bottom to maybe 16. But yes if we were in a different place toews for nick +1 would make sense.

Toews struggled with back problems for a season and a half. That bad full season he was ailing from a bad back injury. You could see it on the ice when he played too. It's a shame because all of the sudden, Toews got this bad reputation as not being worth his contract and some still carry that to this day.

Same with saad, had one bad year....who knows maybe was injured as well, and all the sudden the guy isn't worth his cap hit...he's erased that perception to those that watched him play this season and a good portion of last season why he seemed to come to life now playing some of his best hockey, but perceptions lag reality.

I think Suzuki can get pretty far, maybe not Toews levels, but he will be a difference maker. Once Caufield comes up and KK gets better, he will not be going at it alone and the team will be more balanced and less top heavy. Having 2 solid lines and a defense to help lighten the load will make it a lot easier. In the beginning, Toews was high octane and offensively focused too, like Suzuki. The defense will come if he works for it.

Nick will be a good 2-way c as he was this year. Toews is a guaranteed hall of fame, and a top 5 centre for ever. Maybe Suzuki could be a good 1c but even 1c might be a stretch
