Description
Twelfth of a series ending on June 30. Mainly doing these to get a better understanding of teams I’m not a “fan” of per say.

Any trade I make will also show up for the other team when I get to that team.

Don’t get mad at me for the lines for the whole series really since I’ll be using the lines before the stoppage and will factor in injured players where I see fit...though do feel free to make suggestions on the lines.

Edmonton Oilers:
Wilson gets a 2nd chance after a lost season due to an injury.

For the Russel trade, Similar salary (after edm pays russel’s bonus) similar players, edm gets cap space and Ottawa gets closer to the cap floor. If Russel doesn’t waive, move him elsewhere or buy him out

Jp is getting moved soon and this is a good trade. It’s pretty much the same as the Adam fox trade of last summer but with the games played threshold on the conditional pick that is 10 games higher

OTT is a good destination for Russel.

Why not add Puljujarvi to that trade. We have the picks as well.

At best 2nds for JP. Heard reports holland turning down offers for multiple seconds.
He’s in no rush to make the trade longer he’s over seas more time holland has to attempt damage control and bring back into oilers or allow other teams to go and view. Luckily this isn’t exactly like Tampa and drouin JP is playing and doing well so there’s even less reason to make a deal for the sake of it.

I think JP lands in Ottawa for there 3rd first and brown.
Brown might sound like too high of a prospect but he’s the one I see Ottawa most prepared to move on from that Edmonton would accept.

Ottawa isn't giving a 1st for Puljujarvi, let alone a 1st and a good prospect. Not a chance

At most, EDM will get Ottawa's 2020 2nd and either Balcers or Abramov.

With Nygard signed for next season, I am not sure that Holland will bring Ennis back if the player's salary demands are too great. I think $2,500,000 is too much salary for a 2-year deal. I also believe Archibald will be the 3RW and if Khaira isn't moved he will centre Neal and Chiasson on a heavy 4th line (just as Tippett had them deployed just before the last season ended.

Signing Lagesson and then acquiring Reilly makes no sense. I'm sure Holland will be trying to trade Russell, but he will be looking for draft picks, a serviceable veteran depth forward, or a middling forward prospect in return. He has to do something about the build-up of Russell, Green, Benning, Lagesson, eventually Bouchard and Lennström, and possibly Samorukov. Moving Russell allows him to resign Benning and sign Lagesson as the 7th guy. That gives Holland some protection during the upcoming expansion draft.

My simple mind sees a scenario in which Russell goes to a budget team like Arizona in exchange for a player like Michael Grabner. Acquiring a player like Grabner allows Holland to move Khaira without diminishing the team's penalty killing depth. With Khaira gone, Holland can resign Sheahan, who is a more consistent player. A guy like Colin Wilson might get a PTO, and he could be a decent option if he can bounce back. Of course whether Holland chooses that path or not depends on what kind of returns he can get for assets like Puljujarvi, Kahaira, and Russell. Bear in mind that Haas quietly managed to have a strong showing as a defensively responsible centreman and may manage to bring more offense in his second NHL season.

Finally, I would not be surprised if Holland brought Smith back for another season.

Trade Russell with half SR instead than a 3rd. At least try it
Dell could be a decent add but Wilson idk, but I know he isn't a 3C.

I wouldn't do this deal if I was the DAL GM.. Why acquire Puljujarvi if he wasn't going to play now so it's guaranteed to be a 2nd. This Puljujarvi case is interesting.
Good deals for Lagesson and Bear.

The thing about lagesson is that he's waiver eligable and some team is going to pick him up

I've suggested that a few times, and I think it makes a lot of sense. I think he's a player who could thrive in Edmonton. He's smallish, but he's good at playing bigger than his size, and he's a good skater who can play strong down low and score from in tight. That strikes me as a guy who could be great with McDavid. Kind of like a more skilled Tyler Ennis, but a bigger asshole.

Abramov plays a really underrated sandpaper game. He's not big, but he finishes his checks and is generally unpleasant to play against. Players on the other team don't like him. Sort of like Brendan Gallagher, though I don't think to that extent.

It's actually a skill Ottawa seems to cultivate in their young players in Belleville. Abramov, Formenton, Norris and Chlapik have varying levels of that in them. I think it's a great attribute to have. Players who play like that are great at drawing penalties. Brady Tkachuk is obviously the king of it.

That's why Holland needs to either trade him or ensure there is a roster spot for him. He can't sign him and then hope to have him play in Bakersfield again.
