I don't understand why the Stars would want to trade Klingberg that just leaves a giant hole on the right side for them.

Yeah I mean they would have the space to go after a FA I guess but still.

Either way this is what they said they wanted, and if you think about it it's a good offer. A cap dump, a top-6 RW, a premium 3C, a 2nd pairing defensemen who can play either side, and a good prospect,

Could be one of the more horrid trades for the Leafs posted...all for to get a 2 years of agood RHD. Leafs trade 3 NHLers with term plus good prospect Liljegren.

I'm just saying that if we want a "true" 1RHD this is the cost. I think we're a lot better off sticking with what we've got though.

Not all "nhlers" are created equal.

I guess buffalo should turn down okposo, ristolainen, johannsson and mittelstadt for matthews

3 NHLers and a prospect afterall

Most people agree it's a fine trade. 2 years of rental for a young top-6 RW on a good deal that leaves him as an RFA, a young 2nd pairing defensemen, a 3C they need, and a good prospect. The thing is your offer is cap dumps, while mine are players who are cost-effective, young, and role-filling.

I disagree. No other team would even offer half of what was proposed. Tell me what is so special about that a RHD, if it decimates your team in other positions and for years in the future.
It's really a silly RHD obsession that so CapFriendly have, that the Leafs NEED any RHD and it's going to change their fortunes drastically.
It's almost become a contest, who can post the worse trades possible just so the Leafs have another RHD

I'm personally in the boat that our current defense will work, but a lot of people disagree so this was a response to that. Also I get it was overpay and we can probably cut Liljegren out but in the end we give up a winger we don't properly use, a replaceable C, and a defensemen we don't need (as long as we get someone back) + a good prospect for a very good RHD.

How are they comparable ? Okposo is a 30 point player making 6m....typical Sabre overpay for a UFA. Johnsson has just a year left in at the end of his career. The only player of value is Risto.
How is five years of Matthews comparable to 2 years of Klingberg.? If Klingberg was such a difference maker you think the Stars would have made the playoffs more times than they missed playoffs when he was on the roster.

Not really. Kap easily makes the top six. Kerfoot is a nice depth scoring add. Dermott and Liljegren both have top four upside. All for two years of Klinger and we get to dump Cogs’ contract while we do it?? Take off your green glasses and sober up lol

Nice to see there’s folks on here that understand value. I proposed something very similar a while back and everybody told me I was crazy to give Klinger up for that. It’s like a big name pops up and people stop thinking clearly. Yes short term Toronto gets the big name and the 1RD everybody is wanting, but long term I feel like Toronto looks really bad. Especially when they realize Klinger is only a slightly better Barrie

Okay take a pick or low end prospect. Cogs is a good veteran presence imo and he is only under contract for 1 year.

He is significantly better than Barrie and gets Norris votes. Twice top 6.

Kapanen was drafted in 2014 and has one 40 point season. Kerfoot is just a guy. Dermott is a 3rd pairing guy and liljergen has seen 3 nhl seasons gone by since being drafted with 11 games on a team with horrid defense and cap problems (he has an elc)

Its 2 dimes a nickel and a quarter for a dollar

I know it's a horrid trade for the Leafs when a Sabres fan thinks the the Leafs should take it. Really no other team would give up so much for two years of Klinger.

The real crazy part of the trade is the trade is that Leafs currently razor thin on NHL Dman depth. Then the trade gets the Leafs one Dman but gives up a NHL regular and another who should be NHL ready next season. So Marincin in the 7th guy....and will be needed when injuries occur. So who is next in line?

Agree to disagree. The idea behind the stars side of it is you make this trade then move Rig and Fox for picks and sign Pietrangelo. I like what it does for the lineup now and in the future. Klinger only has two years remaining and will be looking for big money at the age of 29/30 (not sure which not going through the mess of looking up his birthday etc). Get hung up on the name and Norris votes if you want to

In retrospect we can probably get away with SDA in the trade instead of Liljegren.

That still leaves us with Lily, Rosen, Marincin, and whoever happens to be good in the AHL that year when everyone gets hurts.

The Leafs get killed on this trade .3 roster players our best rhd prospect when Cog is gone next year and Kling in 2 sub Faksa or Hintz for Cog and then we have something to talk about . We just tried Tyson Barrie a offensive first rhd did not work out very well

Sorry, it's a crazy RHD obsession that so many have. God, how is Klingberg gonna make all that difference to the Leaf when 3 regulars are traded for him. How did Klingberg and his ability to shoot right help the Stars? 2 playoff appearances in five years. Two playoff round wins. Why do so many think the Leafs Dman are so bad. Look at Nashville and their highly regarded expensive Dman. Allows 8 fewer goals than the Leafs. Washington and their high profile Dmen...12 fewer goals. Really crazy bad trade just to add a RHD.
