NJD
  1. Eriksson, Loui
  2. Juolevi, Olli
  3. Lind, Kole
Détails additionnels:
Seems Benning is commirting to a win now mentality, so I will help. Gusev goes to the west coast and easily slides into a top 6 roll. As it sits, it can he debated if Vancouver can resign all their FAs (which reports say is something they want to do).... Gusev essentially a Toffoli replacement that is young enough to fit into the team's core.
VAN
  1. Gusev, Nikita
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2021 (BUF)
Détails additionnels:
**Sign and Trade**

We can debate if Gusev is or isn't going to be part of a long term solution in Jersey. What can he said is both Joulevi and Lind should be. Some may say that asking for both these guys is greedy, keep in mind, Jersey is taking on 2 years of Ericsson here - cuz they can. That's the buy in to having Vancouver do deal. They will effectively have the room to resign the FAs, and should be able to extend Gusev to the Ericsson money
2.
NJD
  1. Robertson, Jason
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2021 (DAL)
Détails additionnels:
Robertson has all the making of a top 6 winger. Full stop. 1st rounder is a must here. Full stop. I don't see Palmeiri resigning in Jersey.... just too far away from winning.
DAL
  1. Palmieri, Kyle
Détails additionnels:
Dallas' window is closing, and there is no doubt Nill is committed to trying to win with this group. Additionally, they want to add offense - Palmeiri does that in spades, and easily enters.

Dalls fans are going to scream at the price here, but I suggest the Stars re-up Palmeiri, making the deal worth it.
3.
NJD
  1. Bennett, Sam
Détails additionnels:
Yup. I am doing this as a straight up deal. Bennett will likely never be more than a 3rd line guy. And that's ok. Considering Jersey moved Santini and a 2nd for Subban, this return isn't all too bad. Doubt you do any better elsewhere frankly.
CGY
  1. Subban, P.K. (4 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Calgary needs a RD. Subban should fit their transition systems nicely. Necessary to eat money here. Not part of the long term picture in Jersey at all.

My only issue with this is NJD would kill Hughes' career. Hes not going to be producing with that line and how many bad seasons before he loses his confidence? Devils did a terrible job of surrounding their 2 1st overall centres and we might see an early bust label for Jack before he gets OSd or traded

I hear ya. But does it make sense to invest in costly FAs? At this stage, I say no.

Absolutely, they just biffed it and although they got 2 1st overall picks, they still need to go through an entire rebuild process. Its going to be a long time until this team is competitive again

They have the tools, but I think Fitz (who should retain the GM job) is going to have to get inventive after this year...... can't bring along that centre corps in a losing atmosphere.

Just gotta sell everything, let the kids play and see how it looks after the year is out.

For sure, they'd be smart to make a move for Puljijarvi, they don't have much to lose at this point. I think they'll hold onto PK since he won't really fetch anything unless they retain. Its going to be interesting to see if they take risks or just stay the course (which would be a mistake)

Would make the Calgary and Dallas trades, Gusev return is atrocious. He's worth at the very least an A prospect and a 1st, not two 22 year olds that have failed to meet expectations + a bad cap dump. You're off the mark on that one

Am I? Or is this a case of Vancouver taking their time with Juolevi and Lind?? Kapanen was still a Marlie at 22 - and now..... And we know defenseman generally take longer to develop.

Further, Gusev is a helluva player, but he didn't light it up either. Palmeiri definitely nets the package you put forth (and that's what I went after), but Gusev doesn't get that return imo. Maybe a 1st on its own, but I don't see the prospect. Hence, I opted to do a deal with no pick to max asset aquisition.

I still see both players being in top 4 or 6 roles (position). But the value of a prospect is very subjective. But for me, Lind is a guy who should round out as a sold 2nd liner - about 60 points (which arguably matches Gusev's production down the line), and Juolevi looks to be a stellar stay at home top pairing guy (noting his offensive game has not translated across the pond).

If your not sold on them, then a 1st and Höglander would certainly be a reasinable ask - especially when taking on Ericsson. However, I think it is important organizationally for the Devils to begin to try and outfit Hughes and Hirscher with wingers that can (or will) produce here and now. Asking for that prospect is more of a wait - and that can breed a loosing culture and frustration..... see Eichel.

Would be pretty happy with Hoglander + a 1st, I wanted NJ to take him in the 2nd round before we traded that pick. Gusev is younger than Palmieri and far more skilled, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a 70-80 point player next season. After getting scratched and some struggles at the start of the season he was lights out, probably our best forward for most of the year. Getting a lesser return on him than Palmieri would be an epic failure imo, would rather move Palms and re-up Goose on a 5-6 year deal.

That is an option. Certainly young enough to fit into the picture long term. If the cards are played correctly, Devils are relevent in 3 years. Gusev would be 30 - that's prime.....

What is clear, this is a rather important offseason where the Devils need to set a clear course, identify their core and build around it...... Shero in the end was all over the map.

Yup, spot on. This upcoming draft might be the most important in their history, absolutely have to hit this one out of the park. If they do there is dynasty potential within the next 10 years here

regardless of Gusev's value VAN would decline... Gusev does not bring anything to the table that VAN doesn't already have, given that, there is no benefit to trading our #1 FWD prospect (given that VP hasn't signed yet) and our #1 D prospect
