Would make the Calgary and Dallas trades, Gusev return is atrocious. He's worth at the very least an A prospect and a 1st, not two 22 year olds that have failed to meet expectations + a bad cap dump. You're off the mark on that one
Am I? Or is this a case of Vancouver taking their time with Juolevi and Lind?? Kapanen was still a Marlie at 22 - and now..... And we know defenseman generally take longer to develop.
Further, Gusev is a helluva player, but he didn't light it up either. Palmeiri definitely nets the package you put forth (and that's what I went after), but Gusev doesn't get that return imo. Maybe a 1st on its own, but I don't see the prospect. Hence, I opted to do a deal with no pick to max asset aquisition.
I still see both players being in top 4 or 6 roles (position). But the value of a prospect is very subjective. But for me, Lind is a guy who should round out as a sold 2nd liner - about 60 points (which arguably matches Gusev's production down the line), and Juolevi looks to be a stellar stay at home top pairing guy (noting his offensive game has not translated across the pond).
If your not sold on them, then a 1st and Höglander would certainly be a reasinable ask - especially when taking on Ericsson. However, I think it is important organizationally for the Devils to begin to try and outfit Hughes and Hirscher with wingers that can (or will) produce here and now. Asking for that prospect is more of a wait - and that can breed a loosing culture and frustration..... see Eichel.
