Description
The cap rises significantly.
The leafs make the playoffs and face Tampa Bay in the first round. Toronto surprisingly advances in five games, fuelled by a strong performance of the Hyman - Matthews - Marner line, and the Muzzin - Holl pairing.

In a stunning upset, the new york islanders end up ousting the bruins in 6 games to face the Maple Leafs in round 2.

Toronto would win the second round in 6 games, and Nick Robertson explodes in the place of the injured Pierre Engvall. he scores 3 goals and 10 points in the series.

Toronto then moves on to the ECF to face the Philadelphia Flyers. Their run comes to an end here in 6 games. both teams played hard, but ultimately, the young goaltender, Carter Hart, is too much for the Leafs.

Leafs are out after what is considered a wildly successful year, and get ready to go deeper the next year. Nick robertson ends up securing a second line spot with JT after his strong playoff.

Colorado wins the cup in 7 over Philly. Cale Makar wins the Conn Smythe.

I feel like holl is the type of player that the leafs should keep. Also, he's formed great chemistry with muzzin this season and dubas would not want to give him up. better off trading dermott instead.

Lol, because they were getting better defensively, getting healthy and Andersen was rounding back into form. All of those things would mean they miss the playoffs. Of course. Honestly even if the Leafs win the cup, there will be countless people like you saying this crap. "Yeah sure they won the cup but only because (Insert total bull**** statement)" You can book it, it is going to happen along with so many people complaining about hearing Leaf fans gloating.

At least until Rielly needs an extension. Then you guys are screwed if you get Tanev. I'd just not sign him.

I don’t know. It seemed like Toronto & Florida were trying to compete for the right to miss the playoffs before the season stopped.

If you get Tanev, why would you bother getting Manson, he's better than Manson anyways plus Holl was terrific with Muzzin. Personally I don't think either of those defenceman are needed. I'd see what we have in Lehtonen, Sandin, Dermott and Liljegren before committing much needed cap space in older players that are either already declining or will be declining soon.

The inconsistency before the stoppage was a big problem. Yes, Anderson was getting better, but the big 4 aside from Tavares looked uninterested and lost. Could they win? Sure. Even Chicago and Montreal have a chance. But have they played like a cup winner? No.

Both Tampa and BOS losing in the first round sounds something that's ripped so far from someone a$$ that it could only come from a Leafs fan's arse.

guess you didnt watch any games then, because although tavares wasnt as bad as people have made him out to be, he was playing the worst out of the big 4

Honestly what the hell are you talking about? Nylander had a career year and was on pace for 70+ points and almost 40 goals. Marner was on a 90+ point pace again and Matthews was on a 60+ goal pace from the time Keefe became coach (on the season he was on pace for 56 goals) None of those guys were uninterested, that is just a made up statement. Just so you have some education before piping off again. Under Keefe the Leafs went 27-15-5 which was a top 10 record over that stretch despite facing major injuries. The list of guys who missed time due to injury during Keefe's tenure is Marner, Mikheyev, Rielly, Muzzin (twice), Johnsson (twice), Ceci and Andersen. Over 82 games that is a 47-26-9 record good for 103 points which would undoubtedly be a contenders record.

Manson>>>>Tanev

Manson is not very good, he had a terrific playoffs 3 years ago and a great season the year after and since then has fallen way off. He hasn't impressed me at all, he reminds me of Komisarek in a way where he was so good when the Habs were good and had Markov doing all the hard work and then when he came to the Leafs he was billed as this awesome defensive defenceman but was too slow to do anything. Manson is a better skater sure but he's really nothing special. Lindholm is the best defender there and Manson when counted on to do heavy lifting doesn't get it done. Tanev knows what he is and I think he's a better puck handler than Manson which is paramount in TO's system.

Its expensive and I don't think it necessarily would rock. Manson is a north and south player, he would have been terrific under Bab's but under Keefe I don't think his skating and puck handling are good enough. Tanev I would like but I don't think its wise to spend so much on a guy who may be hitting his decline soon. I think the smarter move is to wait and see what we have with our youth. I think Dermott, Sandin, Lehtonen and Liljegren are going to be at worst better than most expect and at best they could really take strides forward.

I think keeping them both is the prudent path forward. Dermott has shown well and is only 23. Holl was really good next to Muzzin, why trade assets for older players who are very well may not be much better than Holl and Dermott now let a lone 2-3 years from now. Too many people think about right now and it leads to short sighted and often dumb moves.

Its unlikely but also this playoff if it happens is going to be so weird. I think the play in will be a crap shoot and many upsets could happen and once those teams finish their play ins they may be more physically and mentally prepared for the next round than the top 4 in each conference. Imagine Montreal being younger and faster than the Pens, start quicker and Price steals the 1st two games. The Pens could be done, what if any team takes a week to get into their grove? Its over. Now teams that go deeper in the play in will be closer to midseason form than teams that roll their opponent or teams that take it easy in the round robin for seeding. Its going to be a wild crazy ride. That is why I will hope for the best but no matter what the results are you can't really be too upset.

As a Leafs fan, what if Matthews goes nuts and scores like he did to start last season where he had something like 8 goals in his first 7 games or something crazy like that? Columbus will be so far in the whole there is almost no chance of getting out. And at the same time what if the puck luck just doesn't fall their way and they lose the first two games despite hitting the post 5 times a game? The momentum swings will be so huge in a best of 5 series. Then when the next round happens who is going to be more prepared? Its just going to be nuts. If you lose early, its hard to pin it on anything other than the circumstances.
