Description
I based my pick order off of point projection

Obviously people won't agree with my selections but that's the entire point of this and having a comment section.

Only thing I don't really want to hear about is "Chicago isn't drafting Askarov REEEEE!" I've made my case on why they should on many occasions as well as here.

*Almost hit "Delete Draft" instead of Publish. After over a week of working on this, that would have hurt*
RONDE 1ÉQUIPEORIGINALJOUEURDéTAILS
1Logo de Red Wings de Detroit-Clear #1 If Detroit falls to 2 or 3 they will most likely take Stützle
2Logo de Sénateurs d'Ottawa-
3Logo de Sénateurs d'OttawaLogo de Sharks de San Jose^ Top 3 are pretty well locked in. Order of 2 and 3 might change depending on lottery
4Logo de Kings de Los Angeles-I think LA will want to grab a play making winger but they may opt to go for Drysdale here. IMO adding Raymond solidifies this teams forward depth for the future. He's basically like adding Marner to your roster. Also, 2021 is chalked full of solid defensive prospects and I think LA is at least 2 years out from competing again.
5Logo de Ducks d'Anaheim-ANA should 100% take Drysdale if he is still available at their pick (assuming the didn't win the lottery for 1 or 2). If not I can see them opting to take either Perfetti or Rossi. Anaheim seems like a team that would be all over Rossi with Drysdale gone.
6Logo de Devils du New Jersey-NJ will take either Raymond or Holtz. Winger for Hischier/Hughes. They are already set on center depth for the foreseeable future and adding either of these 2 wingers will drastically help their rebuild. There is a chance thee Devils select Perfetti here as he is also familiar with playing the left side. However since Palmieri's contract is coming to an end and he is entering his 30's i think Jersey looks more to add a sniper.
7Logo de Sabres de Buffalo-I have Buffalo taking Lundell at 7 regardless of who's still available. I think he will fit their young core best with his 2-way game. He is pretty close to NHL ready now and shows a very high IQ for the game. I'm also a big fan of Lundell and think if he falls out of the top 10 he could be the steal of the draft.
8Logo de Canadiens de Montréal-I think the Habs will take Perfetti if he's still available and Rossi/Holtz if not. If none are still on the table that likely means they were jumped in the lottery or Raymond/Lundell are still there and that is their choice. MTL sits in a very good spot in this draft for getting a core player moving forward
9Logo de Blackhawks de Chicago-Chicago seems like the best place for Askarov to land. They don't really have any young goalies in their system. Personally I'm pretty high on Kevin Lankinen but he's also 25. Askarov will be at least 3-4 years down the road. I could also see Chicago trading down a couple spots knowing they are after Askarov and don't expect one of the other teams right after to take him. On the other hand, Chicago is not known for drafting Russian players I will likely have a Hawks fan or 2 come in and tell me about how they need Rossi more but that's really short sighted thinking IMO.
10Logo de Devils du New JerseyLogo de Coyotes de l'ArizonaNew Jersey (Ari) - With an elite winger prospect already taken I see Jersey going after a defenseman here. Sanderson is listed lower on here because he has already committed to UND next year. However, since NJ is in the midst of a rebuild I think they are patient enough to let him develop in the NCAA first.
11Logo de Wild du Minnesota-Minny seems like a wildcard to me, I could see them attempting to trade up in the draft to one of Perfetti/Rossi I can however see Rossi falling due to his size but no further then this. If any or Ross/Perfetti/Lundell are available at their pick they will take them. Otherwise they will grab the next best available center. To me this top 11 is pretty much a lock. The order may change depending on certain picks and team needs. Now I know this is a hot take to have Rossi fall to 11 and it probably wont happen but he is also one of the oldest players in the draft and and was on the best team in the league fairly marginally. I think if NJ takes Perfetti Minnesota would very interested in jumping up in the draft to secure Rossi/Lundell.
12Logo de Canucks de Vancouver-Winnipeg - High IQ player with solid 2-way game. No real weakness to his game, very well rounded. Good fit for replacing Little/Wheeler at 2C in a couple years. He is often compared to Horvat. Alternatively, WPG might be interested in Dylan Holloway for the same reason's however there is some concern to his NCAA production on a stacked team. Both are older players in the draft so their numbers may be skewed by age. Picks after 11 become a little harder to predict as there is at of a fall of in skill. I will be going into a lot more detail on my choices here.
13Logo de Predators de Nashville-NY Rangers - This teams a little hard to pin down, with an already deep prospect pool and the signing and resigning of Panarin and Kreider. This team could literally go in any direction, especially after drafting 2nd last year and picking RW'er Kaapo Kakko. I think NYR might just be interested in the BPA here as they aren't desperate to fix any clear holes moving forward, They also have a 2nd first round pick later in the draft. This is also a team I could see attempting to jump a few spots to snag one of the elite center prospects in Perfetti/Rossi if they are still on the table.
14Logo de Panthers de la Floride-There are a lot of options available here for the Panthers as their direction as a team is pretty unclear right now, last year they drafted their future starter in Knight then went and signed Bob to a 7 year deal in Free Agency, as well as shut down defender Stralman (who hasn't looked like a great fit so far) to some expensive contracts. At the TDL this year they were sellers and moved out their 2C for a lower end pending UFA 2C and futures. They have some big name players hitting the open market this summer and there are rumors that they are trying to cut spending as well. There is a clear hole at 1LD. Tippet is probably ready for the big leagues and Borgstrom can probably make the jump too now (if he signs) but without resigning Haula they don't exactly have a legitimate 2C option right now. Maybe move Huberdeau to 2C? Regardless, none of the in the range of their pick will be NHL ready for at least 2 years and top 6 ready for at least 3. With the success shown by Priskie in the AHL this year and the signing of highly regarded Russian prospect Denisenko I think Florida will look to Either draft a LD prospect like Sanderson (if still available) or continue with the Russian movement and take KHL ready LW prospect Rodion Amirov.
15Logo de Flames de Calgary-Columbus - This pick is really dependent on how coaches and management feel about Texier/Foudy as their potential 2C's moving forward. After trading away a substantial amount of picks in last year then had 4 relevant free agents walk in the summer. Columbus also has a lot of upcoming UFA's on their blue line. This team has a lot of options with the 15th OA pick, a defense like Kaiden Guhl strongly resembles a healthy Ryan Murray and can help restock their depleted defense prospect pool. Lapierre has a very high ceiling and for a team already riddled with injuries this year and fighting through it, taking the risk on him for the French connection 1-2 punch down the middle could be enticing. However I think the Jackets will be looking at a winger to round out their future top 6. Quinn is a great option if still available, goal scoring is a major need for the team and he could really help. Mercer seems like he would fit really well into Torts system and looks to be NHL ready sooner then later. But I'm going with Noel Gunler for this one, Columbus has a lot of Swedish young Swedish players in their system. He's also a big guy and a goal scorer.
16Logo de Rangers de New York-Calgary - Flames basically have 2 options here, and neither are what the general group thinks it is. Most people seem to say they should draft a RW since that is their current biggest hole. However that is a now problem and not a major issue in 3-4 years when the prospect is NHL ready. Right now Flames have 2 massive holes in their prospect pool, C and RD. Calgary's scouting team has shown multiple times that he is quite good at getting NHL defense with later picks and undrafted (ie. Fox, Kylington, Andersson, Brodie, Kulak, Giordano). So logically they should look at acquiring a center here to replace an aging Backlund. The 3 best choices available in this range are Lapierre, Zary, and Holloway. Lapierre is a high risk/high reward player. Offensive play-making specialist (wish he would shoot more though). He also have a very solid defensive game, a good top speed and great control while at that speed. He is often compared to Nugent-Hopkins and Bergeron. I talked about Zary earlier, him and Holloway are very similar, solid looking 2-way forwards, big physical players. Overall the safer pick. Holloway is also a local kid.
17Logo de Jets de Winnipeg-New Jersey (Van) - With an elite goal scorer and shut down LD already selected this draft Fitzgerald and the Devils Management turn on their webcam (since it's live streamed) for the 3rd time in the first round. I like the idea of taking the best forward available here to help solidify their future winger core.
18Logo de Sénateurs d'OttawaLogo de Islanders de New YorkNashville - Preds scouting team is the best of the best when it comes to drafting defense. With the expansion coming up and as their current elite d-core continues to age into their 30's I think Nashville will start stockpiling with their pick here. Its also important to note that Ekholm is also a free agent in 3 years (same time as Forsberg) and will certainly deserve a raise. The Preds have been very successful in the past with drafting defense from the WHL, Guhle has a very high floor and should make the NHL. Some other options here include Barron, Grans, Schneider, and O'Rourke
19Logo de Blue Jackets de Columbus-Carolina (Tor) - Canes have kept a close eye on Perreault for a while now. They selected his team mate Jamison Rees last year in the 2nd round and their scouts are quite familiar with his play at this point. Carolina adds a much needed right handed C/RW goal scorer to their arsenal
20Logo de Hurricanes de la CarolineLogo de Maple Leafs de TorontoEdmonton - After loading their prospect pool with young high potential defense and finally making a line up that can allow McDavid and Draisaitl to play on separate lines, Oilers are going to use their 2020 pick to start stalking up on future wingers for their superstars. With Pulujarvi probably being moved it makes logical sense to add a winger that can make the jump sooner then later and has solid middle 6 potential with top 6 upside. Mercer is a very well rounded versatile player with great puck control and a really solid shot. He has a solid 2-way game with lots of game sense, is aware of almost everything going on around him. I would say Mercer is a player with a really high floor but not as high ceiling, should be a lock for the NHL and at least 3rd line.I think Mercer would be a great line mate for Draisaitl down the line with Yamamoto moving up to the top pair. I could also see Edmonton having interest in a player like Mysak.
21Logo de Rangers de New YorkLogo de Hurricanes de la CarolineOttawa (Nyi) - After selecting 2 highly regarded forward prospects in the top 5 the Sens switch gears and look to grab a RD with their 21st OA selection. At this point the 2 best that could still be on the board are Barron and Schneider. Both play a very solid defensive style game with Barron being more of a 2-way player. Barron was expected to be one of the top picks this year before his blood clot issue derailed his season. IMO Barron has the higher ceiling of the 2 and should pan out somewhere between Brodie and McAvoy as a smart 2-way defenseman. If both players are gone by this pick I could also see Ottawa looking at Grans as a potential option because of his high floor and solid defensive game.
22Logo de Stars de Dallas-Stars go for BFA (best forward available) and take the risk on Lapierre's potential. With recent news of his most recent injury being upper back and not concussion related there should be a lot less hesitation to take the skillful play-maker. With forwards aging out and not many replacements stocked up Dallas bets on Lapierre to help bolster their young core moving forward. I have a hard time seeing Lapierre fall much further then this because of his potential, I think he could go anywhere from the 11-25 range depending on team needs and willingness to take a risk. Some other names I could see Dallas looking at are Grans, Bourque, and Mysak. As well as other players Ive chosen above. Stars should just be looking for the best player they can add it's pretty open ended.
23Logo de Oilers d'Edmonton-New York (Car)- Rangers make their way up to the podium for the 2nd time this round. After snagging the 2nd best sniper in the class right winger Jack Quinn they opt to replenish their center or LW depth. Like their last pick, due to their deep prospect pool I think Rangers select the BPA and in my opinion that is Czech left winger Jan Mysak. He could pair nicely next to fellow Czech center Chytil as well. He is an effect goal scorer and decent 2-way player, He projects to be a solid middle 6 winger with more of a 2nd line potential.
24Logo de Golden Knights de Vegas-Minnesota (Pit) - After selecting a really solid center prospect earlier in the draft (Rossi/Perfetti/Lundell or at worst case Zary/Holloway) Minisota is feeling a little more confident with their center depth. However It never hurts to have too many centers, especially ones with good 2-way games. I think Minny has 2 choices with their 2nd 2020 first round pick, they could look into stocking up their D prospects along side Addison, or they could look to further secure their center depth. Personally I like the latter. The Wild are a team filled with aging players but also a lot of high potential/emerging winger like Fiala, Kaprizov, Boldy, Kunin, and Greenway. The problem is outside of Khovanov they don't really have any replacements for Koivu and Staal. This is why I like the idea of selecting Mavrik Bourque. Overall I'm a fan of his all around game and above average defensive skill. He seems like a solid fit for Minny's "trap" style game play. The other option I have for the Wild is grabbing a LD to help restock their depleted cupboard however they have a fairly early 2nd round pick and there are a lot of solid defensive prospects in that area that could normally go 1st round in less stacked draft.
25Logo de Wild du MinnesotaLogo de Penguins de PittsburghPhiladelphia - Philly has a really solid prospect pool already, with the only real question mark being Niskanen's replacement. I think the Flyers go for the BPA at 25 and pick RD Braden Schneider. He has the potential to be a top 4 shut down dman, prime Seabrook or Parayko type player. Other options in this range are Barron and Grans.
26Logo de Flyers de Philadelphie-Colorado - The Avs sit in a pretty nice spot, they have pretty much set up what is looking to be a dynasty level team moving forward (with goalie being the only actual question mark) and are able to take gambles with their draft picks. Their defensive depth looks pretty well covered and the only other uncertainty is their forward depth past the first line. I like the idea of going the high risk high reward route for the Mile High city and grabbing rapidly rising prospect Martin Chromiak. Chromiak, like Mysak switched over to the OHL half way through the season and went on a tear to make a name for himself. Putting up 11 goals and 31 points in 25 games he was able to jump on to a lot of scouts radars very quickly. His skating is a little awkward and his defensive game could use some work, however he has a wicked wrist shot and really solid offensive awareness. It is however possible that a lot of his success came at the hands of young potential superstar Shane Wright.
27Logo de Capitals de Washington-San Jose (Tbl) - Let's be honest, this team shouldn't have a first round pick but hey here we are. Honestly I have no idea what the Sharks are really looking for since I have no idea what direction they are going to go with their team. Because of this I will go with the option that best fits what I think they should do and that's a 2-3 year retool. Try and move out a couple of the major aging contracts (Burns, Couture) and build around the younger core. Looking through the Sharks prospect pools there are quite a few holes to fill (luckily they get 2 shots at it with an early 2nd round pick). With the recent success of Ferraro as someone who looks to have secured a roster spot as a bottom 4 player for now, as well as the Simek extension I don't think LD is a major issue. Obviously RD isn't an issue, especially with Merkley still in the system. Goalie is a hole that takes quite a few years to fill via draft (Binnington is considered a young goalie and he's 26). So that leaves forwards and the best place to start is the middle. Jumbo Joe at the tail end of his career and Couture is getting up there in age as well. I really like Hertl and I think SJ is ok on winger depth for now. So for my pick for the Sharks I'm going with USHL rookie and 2nd in points (and only to his teammate that had 1 more point) in the entire league Brendan Brisson. Also being the son of NHL agent Pat Brisson (very popular agent), it could be a good thing to get on his good side. ;)
28Logo de Sharks de San JoseLogo de Lightning de Tampa BayVegas - after using 3 of their last 4 1st round picks on forwards (Suzuki, Glass, Krebs) since entering the league the Golden Knights seem pretty set up front, especially after acquiring Patches and Stone. I think it is very likely that Vegas enters this draft with the intent to upgrade their defense pool. Looking through their roster and picks over the last few years they seem to favor North American born players so I wouldn't bet on them to jump on Grans. Due to this and recent success results from the WHL I can see a lot of interest in Braden Schneider. However due to already being selected in my draft I am choosing to go to the OHL and pick left defenseman Ryan O'Rouke. IMO he is a bit of a sleeper pick and was really starting to shine when Covid broke out and cancelled the under 18 tournament. He has a solid 2-way game and a wicked shot. Vegas would be more then happy if he pans out as a top 4 guy.
29Logo de Avalanche du Colorado-Washinton - Caps probably don't hesitate to grab the highest potential forward still on the table in Zion Nybeck. With an aging core even if Ovi seems to refuse to show it, they do have to start planning for the future. Pair Nybeck with 2019's "steal of the draft" McMichael and you could have a solid young core making an impression soon then later. I could also see Washington look to restock their defensive core.
30Logo de Blues de St-Louis-With their last 2 highest round picks being both Germans, I wouldn't be surprised to see them grab one of Peterka or Reichel with the 30th OA pick. However I think pretty likely that St. Louis wants to start restocking the cupboards in defense with the likely walking of their captain Pietrangelo. After signing Faulk to a long term deal and probably planning to keep Parayko long term I think they are satisfactory on the right side for now. With the 4 year extension on Scandella the Blues may view him as a stopgap player on the left. Perunovich had some really good numbers in the NCAA this year and shows potential but its always better to be safe then sorry. So with St. Louis I have them selecting QMJHL defenseman Lukas Cormier. Blues scouting team should know all about him already after drafting teammate Nikita Alexandrov with their highest pick last year. Cormier as a defense was tied for 2nd on the team in Pts/g. He doesn't really have the size yet to play the physical game the Blues are known for but he is still very sound defensively with good awareness and strong skating.
31Logo de Ducks d'AnaheimLogo de Bruins de BostonTo me this pick relies a lot a couple different things. If the Ducks did manage to draft Drysdale they will probably be looking at a forward here, otherwise they will probably be looking at defense. Also they have another pick early in the 2nd round so if a really high potential player falls to them it would be really smart to grab them and worry about the team needs with the 2nd. In my scenario I have Anaheim getting Drysdale so I like grabbing a forward with the final pick of the first round. With Zegras looking to be more suited for the wing I think Anaheim will try and target a center prospect. So with that said I have Anaheim picking German center John-Jason Peterka. He is a very strong skater with excellent puck control. he also has a really solid shot to top it off. He needs to work on his defensive game and upper body strength but overall has the qualities to make a very solid top 6 forward. He probably wont come over to Canada right away but that's why Anaheim seems like a good fit since they are still rebuilding. I do want to add that in the case the Ducks don't get Drysdale there is a good chance this pick is used on the best available defense at the time. Anaheim GM Bob Murray has been reported scouting Helge Grans multiple times and he seems like really solid fall back option. The Ducks have also had success drafting Swedish defenseman in the past.

I dont think Brisson is an unlikely pick for the sharks, and I think he works well. I have a couple guys that I would take before him, but I wouldnt be upset with the pick

I think it looks good! I agree with you that Raymond should go at 4, I dont know why people are so down on him. If you watch him, you'll see skill, but the numbers are down because he plays against guys literally twice his age. For Chicago, I agree, we should take Askarov if he falls to us because he is an insane goalie prospect. My only thing there is I think we probably would take Rossi there if he fell, but if Lundell was the last high ranking center prospect on the board, it should 100% be Askarov. Rossi just has too much skill to pass up, and Chicago isn't shy about drafting small size, just ask Debrincat and Boqvist

These explanations are great I really enjoyed reading them. I think Chromiak won't be a first round prospect because of his play in both the OHL and Czech pro league. His stats are good but not great in Czech and when compared to prospects producing well in better pro leagues he looks a little weak. His OHL performance was solid after getting used to the North American game (which he got used to very fast), but his stats weren't exactly through the roof. I see lots of upside in him but I think teams may be looking for a safer pick.

You could be right, like I said a lot of his success could have stemmed from Wright being his center

I like Cormier, but I can’t see a coach letting all three of Dunn, Perunovich, and Cormier on the same side of a d-core. Reichel is also my guy here for sure, I’ve got him 16th. Loved the detail in this mock though

Nice job. To be honest if sens get 2 and 3 I see them taking Byfield and Drysdale. They get a top line C in Byfield and a probable top pair RHD. Stutzle is good but it's hard to compare forwards to defensemen, but I dont think theres much of a gap between them

Excellent draft, read through it and im down to see a second round of this. Its the closest that can occur with Rossi being the only question.

Oh man a 2nd round, that will take a lot of research. Idk if im up for that.

I agree on Rossi, i wxpect him to go a lot sooner then 11 but I dont think teams like LA, NJ, MTL are looki g for a player like him. I feel like Anaheim will grab him if Drysdale is already gone though.

No pick that I thought was totally out of place, your logic and reasoning is very solid

Speaking for my Ducks I can’t see JJP being the pick at 31 I think they’d go more of a scorer route there but I like JJP as a player and I also view him as a day one talent

Very solid draft top to bottom imo
