If they dealt both Klinger and Radulov to TOR in exchange to Nylander, I'd want some picks as well.

Especially if we're retaining.

Defense is rough. Kirk will struggle on the top pair even with wonder boy to his left. Lindell and Johns will spend a lot of time stuck in their own end. Ceci is just yuck

I'd do Zucc+4th for Pavelski. MN is taking more risk that Pavelski won't fit any better than Zucc into the lineup in MN. Zucc played very well with Dallas, so the only risk with him is his bloated contract for term. Both of them make too much money.

Pavelski’s contract is also 2-years shorter than Zuccarello’s. A 4th round pick has very little value for a team that’s taking on an additional $10M in cap space over the life of Pavelski’s ($14M remaining) & Zuccarello’s ($24M remaining) contracts.

For two guys that had similar numbers this year, Minnesota is going to have to give up a 2nd (or piece of equal value) to get Dallas to take a 32-year old Zuccarello on a longer, more expensive contract than the one they’d be retaining if they kept Pavelski.

If these moves were to happen, Heiskanen would have to be your 1RD. He’s the only player on the roster that has shown comfort on both sides, and he could play a top-pair RD role more effectively than anyone else on this roster.

I still don’t see a scenario where Klingberg gets traded to the Leafs where Liljegren is not a piece coming the other way.

The Stars RD position is probably the most shallow across the NHL. Klingberg is legitimately the only top-4 caliber defensemen they have on the right side. Johns is a good depth guy, but after that they have a couple of AHL-caliber guys and that’s it. They simply don’t have the pieces behind Klingberg to entertain moving him, unless they are getting a high-end RD prospect in return or a young top-4 caliber RD.

Then MN should keep Zucc, it's not worth it to give up more than a 4th to get rid of him (especially when making a Division rival a better team overall). MN could retain $500k/yr and that would be pretty close to what you're looking for value wise. It would save you $1.5m for the first 2 years (when the cap is supposed to be flat). The last 2 years are the question mark in the deal and will 100% depend on Zucc's play.

Pavelski is no spring chicken himself at soon to be 36. He might make MN a better team overall, or he might not.

MN just saw Koivu fall off of a cliff this year, and Staal has been walking the edge of that cliff. Zucc is probably a couple years away from that cliff.

I don't think that Guerin will pay that kind of premium to downgrade from Zuccarello to Pavelski just to cut his out-of-pocket costs. Fenton and then Guerin were brought in with instructions to put a winning team on the ice. The difference between Pavelski's $13 million ($9 million after the 2020 signing bonus is paid) and Zuccarello's $25 million is a very secondary factor.

Right. Then you wouldn’t need Ceci (thank goodness) and you’d run

Lindell-Miro
Rig-Kirk
Harley-Johns

Which looks much better

Playing devils advocate here because I mostly agree with you.
-Zucc isn't Guerin's guy though.
-Center is a team need and MN has a surplus of wings.
-short term add in cap hit but it ends 2 years sooner.
-Zucc has been an awful fit with the Wild. Maybe Pavelski would be a better fit?
-Zucc would probably waive for Dallas after having a chance to compare the two teams.
-The center market is really weak this year.
-Guerin could look a little longer term with a possible Brodin/Dumba trade.

I do like the premise of the trade for both teams. I just think the value is a little off.

good point. Just a half-thought considering how good Zucc was in Dallas and Pavelski potential "bounce back" scenario in Minny
