I mean, he should because he needs financial security. But I still think he ends up with the Islanders. It would be interesting if he signs something with an immediate NHL-out clause. I don't know if there are waivers involved, but I can't imagine there is since he's not really a free agent.

I imagine a lot of players will opt to stay a year in Europe. We don't know when the 20/21 season will start, and it looks like the Euro leagues will be able to open before the next NHL season resumes.

I believe that he signs with the KHL next season because he can make more money than a standard ELC ,also the KHL will start earlier . There is a chance that he still signs with the Isles this upcoming season if he can burn his ELC and Lou guarantees him the backup position. Long term I see him with the isles because I do think he wants to make that next step and play against the igor shesterkin in the upcoming decade but incentives from Lou will become a sticking point.

That's right! NYI owns his rights, so he does not need to pass through waivers.
