Cap isn't going up so you're already over, Hall isn't taking a discount to go to Edmonton.

Signing Hall virtually guarantees there will be no money for Nugent-Hopkins next summer. I'd rather have Nugent-Hopkins.

Sure if you underpay the guy.

My personal belief is Hall will get a 7 year, 65 million deal if he hits free agency.

Edmonton also has at least $400k* in cap overages from this year that must be covered in 2020-21, so their actual cap limit is $81.1M, not $81.5M like everyone else has.

*this number is not finalized as Mike Smith has playoff bonuses which may or may not vest.

Now the question is, why would Hall want to return to EDM? He was the scapegoat and blamed for EDM's lack of success as they pushed him out the door. Reports got out that he went to rehab in 2016 before being traded. I'd put Hall's chances of returning to Edmonton at the same level as a guy like Kessel being willing to sign with Boston.

My understanding was that Hall’s issues were with the old management team, most of whom are no longer with the organization. As an Edmontonian I can tell you that Taylor Hall was popular with the fanbase, and we were sorry to see him go.
