K there are some issues

1. Kap can only get toronto a 1st if traded at the winter deadline as teams are more willing to pay that for him
2. Johnsson could get u a 2nd but with his injury history he probs will get a 3rd
3. Why we bringing moore back? we traded him for a reason and he has fit well with the kings. Just trading for Lizotte would be good.
4. U do not want thorton on our third line, he is to slow, 4th line with spezza could be fine.

If the Kings trade Lizotte, it's because they're afraid they'll lose him to Seattle in the expansion draft. They could very well trade him, but in return, they're going to want an asset that is expansion draft exempt or something that is worth protecting (i.e. better than Kempe, Iafallo, or Grundstrom). Neither Kerfoot nor Engvall satisfy those conditions.

Make it SDA and a 3rd and the Kings might go for it.

Can a team actually retain on an entry level contract? That doesn’t seem fair to me.

I don't even know if Kapanen gets you a first round pick period. Sure he put up 20 goals and 44 points last season, and maybe he could have reached those again this year, but that's on a loaded offensive team. If he goes to, say, Buffalo or Columbus, does he reach 20 goals and 44 points? Is that a first round pick? I would say he's probably worth a solid 2nd and maybe a desperate team at the trade deadline gives up a first. I also think that Johnsson's value has been overblown. Maybe Pietro signs for that, but I assume he gets higher offers. Maybe he wants to play in Toronto, who knows.

Kapenan can get a 1st. He is a 2 way wing who is both good offensively and defensively. He has got speed and agility and has started to become a scrapper. At 3.2 mill and can score 40 points that's a steal for many playoff teams. Look at goodrow he got a 1st and many people said Tampa overpaid but heck yes a good 4th line pker. In general if traded at the correct time kapenan can easily grab a 1st. The fact he achieves 40 points on the 3rd line of the leafs is amazing. Just picture if he was playing top 6 rw with tavares or Matthews he could probs get 50+ points easy. Overall he is the perfect piece for many teams and if offered at the deadline dubas could get a 1st.

Maaaaaybe Kapanen can get a late 1st in a normal year, but there are 3 factors that likely mean that he doesn't:

1) The likely flat cap will reduce the number of teams that will want to add $3m+ middle 6 forwards.

2) A flat cap would tilt the market heavily in favour of buyers. UFA's will be cheaper and likelier to sign shorter term deals than usual, which will also push trade prices down - particularly as there will likely be an oversupply of players with $3-4m contracts that teams want to trade.

3) In an expansion draft year a 1st round pick will be highly valuable currency compared to middle 6ers who are borderline to be protected.

laugh laugh Alex Pietrangelo wants closer to $10 million per to stay with St Louis, No way he takes less to come home to Toronto you're still 2 players short with 0 cap and a underpaid Pietrangelo yeah not happening.

kapenan is only middle 6 due to the leafs rw depth. Placing him above Nylander or Marner would not be smart. Put him on another team like calgary, san jose, and edmonton he could take a top 6 role. If in the 2020-2021 season kapenan again achieved 40+ points on the 3rd line and Dubas made him available there would be a bidding war for him. However Dubas would be not be a smart Gm to trade him as he is improving every year and if Nylander moves to LW which he has suggested he wants to try, Kapenan can move up to top 6 and possibly improve his game even more. I would say a late 1st (20-30) would be what Dubas could probs grab

I agree, I think Kapanen could be a nice fit as a complimentary player on the 2nd line of many teams.

Something also has to give with all the wingers Toronto has. They need a proper 3C and top 4 RHD much more than the need this many wingers.

Mikheyev ------- Marner
Hyman ---------- Nylander
Johnsson ------- Kapanen
Robertson ----- Barabanov
Engvall ---------- Korshkov
(Kerfoot) -------- Bracco

Johnsson is one of the only ones who bring physical play so it's not really ideal to move him as he's a good checking line forward. Kapanen also brings value but is probably the most replaceable one given the type of forwards Toronto has behind him in the depth chart.
