Seth Jones will get a stupid Weber, Vlasic, Karlsson or Doughty contract and will suddenly be hated and unwanted.

Columbus have a 1D in Werenski, along with a group of young Dmen emerging (Gavrikov, Peeke, Nutivara, etc) so if they can resign Savard they can probably afford the loss of Jones.

They really need some firepower up front. But it would would be understandable if they wanted to keep Jones as D is a more important position.

Yes, 2 years of Jones is worth the scraps of that deal, Johnsson, Dermott and couple high picks.

They're pretty stacked on the RW. Bjorkstrand, Atkinson, Nyquist, Anderson, Stenlund etc. All of them are good NHL level RWs. If they lose Jones, their RDs would be Savard, Nutivaara and Peeke (or Holl if that trade goes through). Massive drop in level to get better in a department where they are already good enough.

You just don't lose a D like Jones. Way too good and way too important. Imo moving him for wingers is a bad idea.

There's one clear reason why you're wrong here and that is Jones is much younger than these guys (or when they were signed to be exact). His contract expires at 27, meaning the next big contract of his will only run until he's 35, tops.

How about no.... let’s not go back to this idea that neither team wants to make.

It’s like saying how about Kakko and ADA for Marner

Idk, Jarmo is a pretty shrewd guy and maintains a stone cold poker face...if you throw a 1st down on top of that, he would probably cave in.

Jones is an UFA in 2 years so they may not have much of a choice if he won't sign an extension.

I think they'll be ready to give him any amount necessary to keep him there. They offered Panarin a 12x8 contract, but Panarin was dead set on going to NYR. I don't think Jones is going down the same route.

We are screwed if Werenski is our 1D. Hes bad defensively. Plus there's a good chance he goes to detroit when he hits UFA. Even if we resign Savard there's no way we could afford losing Jones unless Peeke emerges as a top pair D out of nowhere. I'd bet if the team was looking for an impact forward they'd consider moving any other D + picks, possible even Werenski, before Jones

There's a significant problem with this trade - you asked for Seth Jones. The answer is no.

Horrid for the Leafs. Jenner ain't that special. Giving up a dependable Holl. Gee the purpose of trade is to significantly upgrade the RHD and this trade doesn't ,. Yea the Leaf gain cap space, but Jones has only two years till UFA, and Marner five years.

No other team would give up so much to get Jones and his one career playoff round win. But somehow CapFriendly fans think only the Leafs have overpay for this RHD obsession.

Since you brought it up how’s Marner’s playoff record? Now just think how bad this comment will look if TOR still thinks throwing their skates on the ice is good enough come playoff time and they lose to Seth Jones and CBJ in the play in round if hockey returns.

Thanks for the insight, and confirming my belief. Yep, I'm astonished why so many on this site think Jones is such a difference maker, or any of the CBJ Dman. (or really any player)
Marner playoff record. Three years in the NHL, three playoff appearances, zero playoff round wins.
Jones playoff record Six years in the NHL, four playoff appearances, missed the playoffs twice, one playoff round win.
So does anyone really honesty believe Jones is gonna such a difference maker to the Leafs or Columbus?
Sure CBJ might be the Leafs if playoffs....sure looks like a 50/50 series. But what does the upcoming series have anything to do the original post?

What do playoff records have to do with it at all? You brought it up. No one mentioned playoffs but you. Leaf fans sure are insecure about their team even tho it’s “so good”.

Just saying Seth Jones isn't this great addition that to Leafs that will change their fortunes, Virtually all Seth Jones trades are to the Leafs, and really don't understand why folks think he would that make any difference to the Leafs especially when the Leafs would supposedly have to give up so much and more that any other team to acquire. Not blaming Jones for his teams poor playoff performances, but it proves my point, one player doesn't make a difference.
Knowledgeable Leafs aren't insecure about their team...they know what they got, and they know it ain't "so good". Adding Jones at a premium trade cost just doesn't make the Leafs better.
