yeah its not great, but you do have a young D core and G tandem. Its not like youre desperate for prospects to come in right away (unless your entire team gets injured again lol). You could use a few high end forward prospects though

I don't think Columbus' prospect pool is as dire as it's made out to be.

For starters a lot of your best prospects have recently graduated onto the roster, including players like Elvis, Peeke, Gavrikov, and Texier. It's not a bad starting point.

You're set in goal with two good young goalies (Elvis/Korpisalo).

On defense you've got some excellent young guys on the roster, supported by Gavrikov, Nutivara, and Peeke.

You're probably a bit short of high-end talent up front, but Marchenko is quite underrated and may be the best Russian prospect outside of the NHL. With your 1st this year you should get a very good forward as well.

The key for Columbus will be to be competitive enough in the next 2 years for Jones to want to stick around in 2022.

The best thing going for the Jackets prospect pool is that recent scouting and drafting has been talented players that have gone under the radar of other teams. This group will prove to be very good in a few years time. But yes, they need more to fill the gap.

We still have like the second youngest team though, we are only so bare now cause Tex/Bemstrom/Peeke/Gavrikov/Elvis/Stenlund/Robinson have officially "graduated".

I still am bitter we gave up 2 2nds for Dzingel and 2 picks for McQuaid. Had we had those picks last year we would be in a much better spot. However I'll never be upset about the first for duchene.

Either way, in order to appreciate the validity of my assertion you need to put the players in perspective age-wise:

Marchenko at 19: ....16 points in 31 games (0.516ppg)
Kaprizov at 19:......... 27 points in 53 games (0.509ppg)
Kravtsov at 19:.......... 21 points in 50 games (0.42ppg)

Marchenko is also a center which is the more valuable position.

I saw a ranking of all NHL teams where Columbus ranks 1st in the % of roster players they drafted themselves; along with the number of players they drafted that are in the NHL. Clearly they are doing something right in terms of drafting and developing.

Kaprizov played for the worst team in the KHL and lead them in scoring his 19yo season.

Could mean that he got more quality ice time than a young player on a good team would get. You can argue that one both ways.

Only after they got rid of the (Doug) McLean mafia in 2007, and definitely since Davidson & Jarmo arrived in 2013.

Not when the team he was on had like 13 wins for the season and then was relegated to the VHL the next season. He got the opposing teams' top defenders not a more sheltered role against weaker competition.

My Avs were bottom of that list. Hopefully the acquisition of MacParland (former Blue Jackets assistant GM/scout) in 2015 will pay dividends with our drafting and development soon.

I think a better way to look at CBJ is to use the U-25 roster overall, not just the prospects. They have a lot of young guys already in the NHL.

They don't need to have a great prospect pool. They just need to keep doing what they've been doing and add a guy here and there. The team shouldn't have a big turnover anytime soon.

I'd put Voronkov and TFW higher, but that's just me.

Dzingel's bizarre failure to replicate his success alongside Duchene that he'd been getting constantly in Ottawa was an unpleasant surprise for everyone involved.

this is such a bad take. Foudy is a good player and will probably make the jump next year.
This team has brought in NHL level good talent every year consistently which is why they keep being a playoff team.
They were in the hunt this year after everyone said....oh they suck they will finish at the bottom on the league.
Fact is they don't have a ton of roster spots for rookies anymore. They are filling out depth at this point. What they really lack is a center who can take a game over.
But where the hell are you going to find that? 3/4 the NHL is missing that. Unless you are drafting top 3 in a stacked draft you aren't finding that.

I will say one thing. This might be the year they get it. Since they have a chance to get a lottery pick.
