... don't wanna argue so gonna say they r equal

Eichel for maybe 15 years > Matthew's for 4 years
This lopsided enough?

If he were to stay in Toronto theirs a chance he'll resign... anywhere else not so much (xept Arizona)

That maybe, but in terms of market value..... someone finally has it right. That package is totally sound.

Pretty sure Buffalo does not want to trade him either.

And if ya haven't noticed, 4 years of Matthews is far and away the best anyone has come up with.

Still, this never happens, but it's an accurate reflection of what Eichel's market value is.

yeah, EIchel, the totally happy with the way things are going in Buffalo who in the actual proposal is demanding a trade out of town is the one who has the more secure long term outlook. You wanna argue the additional 2 years? sure. but 15? that's ludicrous

I'll easily rather have Marner than 4 years of Matthew's Buff gm would never agree with the trade.... cause after a few years he would've lost a franchise player with nothing to show

even if it was Market value (there is no such thing as market value for players of Eichel or Matthews calibre) you never get market value for someone who wants out. You also never ever get a player of greater value for them, even if you toss in value boosters. If Eichel is ever traded the sabres will get a package that will be more similar to what Seguin returned than anything close to Matthews

yeah, one more year of a worse player because marner is TOTALLY more inclined to stay in Buffalo than Matthews for some reason.

Eichel signed 8 years.... Matthew's signed 5 years
If that doesn't show how sincere they r to their organizations I don't know what does

Well.. Matthew's would 100% leave for Arizona after 4 years, Marner would have a higher chance to stay cause by that time Buff would actually be pretty good

"I want 80 million dollars" vs "I want 55 million dollars"
lets check in on 2nd contract lengths for 'life long' super stars
Crosby, 5 years
Pat Kane, 5 years
Toews, 5 years
Malkin, 5 years
Kucherov, 3 years

totally comited to going UFA those guys! seriously, the shorter term 2nd contract is incredibly common and pretending otherwise is nonsense.

based on what? serious, why would Matthews leave more than Marner would? because the sabres are magically going to be significantly better 5 years from now than they would be in 4? c'mon dude that's weak sauce

i mean, it's better in that Buffalo would actually do it. It's not better in that the other team wouldnt.

The Sabres have pretty damn good young players they going to be good for sure

U know of all the rumors linking Matthew's to Arizona.. his childhood team and all... Much like the Tavares situation actually, the supposed reason Dubas gave such a contract was because The Coyotes wanted to send a massive OS.. the stars mentioned above didn't have those rumors around them so their situations r actually pretty different... where there's smoke there's fire....... honestly hope he stays... been a while since the cup has been in Canada

there are no 'rumours' linking Matthews to Arizona, that's just people who are overzelously hopeful that he will leave so they can laugh at the leafs.
Tavares is literally the only superstar who has 'gone home' as a free agent while not well past their prime. he was the anomaly and you can point to literally every other super star that was not traded by the team that drafted them and say "super stars stay with the team that drafted them"
There never was an offersheet from arizona, again, people wanted it to happen, but it never did. Dubas signed it because he wanted Matthews to play for the Leafs and Matthews wanted the change to make even more money on his third deal, you know like Crosby, Kane, Toews, etc etc etc
The only smoke is the stuff people are blowing up their own butts

The Toronto Maple Leafs 100% believed that if Auston Matthews got to July 1 last year, Arizona was going to offer-sheet him seven years, the max.” - Friedman

Auston would've signed it, Dubas was convinced as well that's why he gave him the 2nd highest cap hit in the nhl for only 1 FA year

Toronto could've matched the OS yeah but think Arizona would've giving him easily 13+ Dubas caved to keep the cap hit lower so Toronto can contend

Auston agreed with terms earlier cause he knew either way Toronto would match and got 2 less years and avoided awkwardness (Aho in Carolina)

PS: Aside from the Friedman quote I'm just guessing bout the rest maybe I'm wrong I don't know it's just what I got out of the article
