CGY-NYI Trade
Flames acquire local guy Thomas Hickey, good depth defenseman for a team that is losing some in free agency. Isles clear cap space by acquiring a minor league forward.
WPG-NYI Trade
Jets acquire top-4 LHD Nick Leddy, shoring up an area they're sorely lacking. Leddy only has two years left on his deal and can step right into their top-4 to stabilize their defense. Isles gain a little cap space, versatile forward Mathieu Perreault, who only has one year left on his deal, and depth defenseman Carl Dahlstrom. I made the pick low because in this scenario because the Jets agreed to retain some of Perreault's salary. If they don't want to retain, they can send a 3rd, but the salary retention is really what makes this work.
VGK-NYI Trade
This was an interesting one that I don't know how Vegas or Isles fans will feel. Johnny Boychuk has been okay but is getting older and has two years left on his deal at $6M per year. The biggest strength the Isles have is RHD with Pulock-Mayfield-Dobson-Boychuk. Pulock and Dobson are untouchable, and Mayfield is great for his role at an excellent contract. The Isles move Boychuk to get rid of his salary and acquire Alex Tuch, who is not far into his long term deal but struggled this year, and VGK may not want to hold onto that long of a contract. Tuch can play either of the top-9 lines and bring an element that the Isles don't really have outside Anders Lee. With the prospects, the Golden Knights receive Kieffer Bellows, who had nice chemistry with Cody Glass in juniors, and RHD Bode Wilde to fill a hole that VGK has a weakness in prospects-wise. The Isles acquire Peyton Krebs, who also fills forward prospect depth they don't have. A Krebs-for-Wilde trade has been discussed here before.
If this gets too complicated, the trade can maybe be Tuch for Boychuk and Bellows.
TL;DR: Isles and Golden Knights swap bad contracts with VGK getting a good prospect and Isles saving cap space.
Signings:
Mat Barzal - Barzal signs a bridge deal, similar to the other RFAs from last season. By the time his contract expires, a lot of bad contracts will be off the books.
Ryan Pulock - Pulock already signed his bridge deal, and he looked like a top-pairing RHD throughout the season. He's not making an exorbitant amount in this and signs long term on an eight-year deal.
Devon Toews - Toews is already 25 and can be a UFA in two years. This contract is similar to the Rasmus Andersson and Marcus Pettersson contracts, where he is on a similar tier.
Andy Greene - Greene looked good in his short stint with NYI, and I'm sure he'd rather re-sign than go through free agency if he doesn't want to retire. He signs for a low amount but he knows he made his money in his last deal.
Other:
The Isles CBO Andrew Ladd, should that be part of the off-season.
Good to know. I didn't know how Vegas felt about Tuch after his disappointing season, or how they feel about Krebs. I think it's pretty fair, the Islanders are giving up two really good prospects here and Bellows can find success with Cody Glass. But I can see where the hesitation comes for Vegas.

I would no longer classify bellows as a really good prospect and Wilde didn't have a great start to his pro career either.
That Vegas trade is so far off... Vegas GM gets fired on the spot if he makes that trade. Boychuk's gonna cost at least a 2nd round pick to move out (maybe even a 1st).
Winnipeg deal isn't very good either. Winnipeg needs RHD not declining LHD. They might take Boychuk if you retain half on him.

We don’t need RHD, we have DeMelo (should be resigned) and Pionk for the top 4 and poolman to be the 3RD. We need a 2LD so bad. Samberg might jump into that spot midway through next season but we need a solidified one.
I actually thought this was a solid trade for the Jets. We really are only giving up a 4th to acquire a 2LD. We have the cap space to retain and it’s only 1 year. If need be we can move Leddy in the 2021 offseason to clear some cap space and a spot for Samberg and heinola.
I actually really liked this trade for WPG, makes sense. I’m curious as to why the islanders would do it?

Just sign TJ Brodie. He's much better defensively.
The Islanders do it for cap space and because he's the 4th LHD if they sign Greene.
I'm not sure if DeMelo will resign. I think he's gonna test free agency. That's why Ottawa traded him cheap.
