I think NYR really needs to move Lundqvist, he's their 3rd best goalie IMO but still a serviceable goalie for 35 starts. A buyout doesn't seem like the best route for NYR, they have a ton of deadcap thanks to recent buyouts (6 mill of dead cap to Shattenkirk this season). For 1 year EDM gives him a shot to potentially compete for a cup and tbh not many cup contenders have a need for a goalie.

3rd for EDM for taking Lundqvist with very little retention

Rangers decline. They'd rather buy him out than a) pay anything to get rid of him or b) take on a cap dump (Russell). He's only going to waive his NMC to somewhere he can start anyway, and if you're acquiring him to be your starter, than you value him much higher than what you're offering here. It's a classic conundrum.
