Lol Komarov has negative value WIN rejects

It's weird seeing the valuations from Islander fans. Leddy has had negative WAR the last 2 years. Literally the same on-ice value as Gudbranson. That's not worth a lot. Maybe if you retain you get a late 3rd? But that's generous. Here's his 3 year on-ice performance compared to another New York LHD:

Screen-Shot-2020-06-01-at-8-53-58-PM

Boychuk has 2 years at 6 mil and is at best a healthy scratch, at worst a major negative on-ice. Marleau has showed us that freeing up 1 year of 6 mil cap = a 1st. So 2 years? Well that's 2 1sts or equivalent. at 4.5 mil for 2 years that's at least 2 2nds just to get him off the roster with no return.

Komorov is in the same boat. at 3 mil a year. That's at least a 3rd for each year on his contract. So getting him off the roster costs 2* 3rds or 1 2nd.

Accurately rewriting these trades it's:

Isles trade Leddy + Komorov + 3rd for Nothing
Isles trade Boychuk @1.5 mil retained + Bailey + 2nd + 3rd for Nothing

Are there any charts showing Leddy prior to Trotz taking charge? I'm curious as to what they look like because I feel like fit the less defensive system much better. I'm not big into these charts yet (not because I dont trust them, rather because I am still confused by them lol) so I'm just curious.

I warned you moving Boychuk, especially with no salary retained, would cost at least Bellows.

They're 3 year charts so that's 1 Doug Weight year and 2 Trotz years. 2017-18 and 18-19 are pretty comparable performance wise.

Here's 2015-18 which is all pre-Trotz.
Screen-Shot-2020-06-01-at-9-28-18-PM

He was around league average. He hasn't really been "elite" since 2014-15, his 1st season in New York.
Screen-Shot-2020-06-01-at-9-31-21-PM

The charts are just a quick and dirty way of projecting on-ice play compared to league average. RAPM (Regularized Adjusted Plus-Minus) accounts for factors such as zone starts/score/quality of competition/etc, and displays a skaters on-ice metrics for GF/60 (Shooting Talent/Luck) xGF/60 (Generating A lot of Quality Shots), CF/60 (Holding Possession), xGA/60 (Stopping Quality Shots against), CA/60 (Preventing the Opposition from Keeping Possesion).

Bellows + 1st

It all depends on how much cap room the other team has too when making a trade like that. Carolina was slightly getting crunched with the upcoming Aho contract at the time of the Marleau trade.

Has really to do with how desperate the team trading is. Pretty similar circumstances. Toronto was severely cap crunched and needed to ink Marner long term. Carolina was able to get a 1st. Isles are cap crunched and need to sign Barzal, Pulock AND Toews.

And Sorokin.

Also, Toronto didn't NEED to ink Marner long-term. They could've went the Brayden Point route if they really wanted to.

And again, it also depends on how much room the other team has in cap space. If a team has 20-30 mil in space with only 2 good -not great - players to sign and won't need to again for another 2 years, they won't ask for the moon necessarily to take a contract like Boychuk.
Leddy needs a change of scenery. Was great his first year due to playing with a slightly past prime defensive Boychuk. Then, for some reason, Capuano paired Leddy with Hamonic in 2015-16 and half of 2016-17 and it was too late when he returned with Boychuk. 2017-18, he was moved around with Mayfield, Seidenberg, and briefly Boychuk before he got hurt. The last 2 years were mainly systematic as well as inconsistency with partners. Like I said, he'd thrive in a more freer system with lesser responsibilities.

I'm not sure any team is so lax as to not try to maximize their trade return. I'd think every NHL GM tries to get the biggest possible return they can in every trade they make regardless of their own team's situation. If you're not doing a good job of maximizing your trade returns as a GM, you're not going to be in that position for very long...

Of course. Trade can take weeks, months, and sometimes years to make. Komarov is more difficult to move than Boychuk given how much more worthless Leo is now compared to Boychuk.

I never said it wouldn't LOL. What I did say is that he doesn't need to be moved right away and it can wait until he has 1 year left. Don't take what I said and change it to make yourself feel good

He's barely an NHL player. He absolutely must be moved.
