The Ducks won't be ready to contend until the last year of Gaudreau's contract. I can't see why they'd want to start buying when they should be selling.

That's not how it works. When you build you want the worse team possible so you can land the best picks. Otherwise you will be stuck in limbo hovering just below the playoff line but not being able to make it in while also not getting top prospects.

2. Anaheim is rebuilding. They aren't gonna move young prospects and good players on good contracts for a short term mediocre scoring upgrade.

Hypothetically speaking Anaheim were to have interest in Gaudreau, you have to add quite a bit more

That what rebuilding is, They are gonna be in a rough spot for a few seasons. We've been lucky to be a good to great team for a majority of the 2000's, A few bad seasons are expected and trading away future building blocks for a guy that can leave for nothing when we can compete again would be a poor decision

As @Leafs_and_Sens_Fan said the Ducks are in a position where they should be adding futures, not moving them. also as they said it will make the rebuild/retool much longer and more painful
