in my opinion, holtz won't be ready next season. while his shot is perfected and nhl ready there are other aspects of his game that need a bit more time before they're nhl ready.

Could be Thompson's last shot there, Pekar could earn it. Itll be pretty fluid

The only way Newhook is going to BUF is if he is part of package for Eichel. So for this, hard and easy no.

Agree. Reinhart has only hit 60 points once (pacing 59 this season though to be fair), and it's likely that without PP1 time in Colorado he would see a reduction in points, since 35% of his points in his career in Buffalo have come on PP1 with Eichel, Dahlin, etc.

He'd probably be more of a 50 point forward away from Eichel on our 2nd line and on PP2 instead of PP1.

That isn't to say that he isn't a good player, just that he's not the type of player we should be trading Newhook for. I'd expect Sakic to try to find another Burakovsky type bargain in a buyers market this offseason rather than sending a bluechip prospect away.

Also, I don't see why Colorado would have interest in Marcus Johansson. Rather just keep Compher or Jost who are cheaper as we already have a 2C in Kadri.

We can definitely replace Newhook with other prospects. Johansson is just there to replace Jost. Johansson's contract is up and they arent hurting for cap

How about replacing Newhook with Kaut? So, Reinhart + Johansson for Compher + Jost + Kaut. Buffalo would get 3 good young middle 6 forwards, 1 of which is a proven 0.5ppg versatile forward (Compher) and the other two have 2nd line / 50+ point potential.

I'm not too keen on Johansson as a stopgaps (that is, I'd rather add pieces that are part of the team long-term for team building purposes), but I suppose it would work for us timeline wise as Johansson would hit UFA in 2021 right when Newhook will join and be 3C for a season before taking over from Kadri in 2022.

Landeskog ---- Mackinnon ----- Rantanen
Burakovsky ----- Kadri ----------- Reinhart
Nichuskin ----- Johansson ------ Donskoi
Calvert --------- Bellemare ------ O'Connor/Wilson/Nieto

I guess the key question is whether Buffalo would be happy with that trade? And also, what is Reinhart's next contract going to look like?

We won’t get such a return for Reinhart, especially when our GM Jason Botterill. I would expect a package Steen, Bozak and Kostin. squinty smile

Kaut and a protected 1st or 2nd id be interested definitely. Reinhart's contract may look different depending who signs it. I think if he stays in Buffalo he asks more cause of the situation in Buffalo (which is why im open to moving him). Sakic could probably get him to sign for 6.5 to 7

Kaut + Jost + Compher + 2021 2nd for Reinhart and Johansson? Does that work for you?

I think its good even then to make everyone happy make the 2nd conditional based on Jost's performance. If he gets less than 40 points they get the 1st, something like that
