A mid round 2nd isn't out of the question. But the above trade is flawed.... Carolina is unlikely to move their remaining 1st rounder. Further given Carolina's depth, Johnsson simply doesn't upgrade anything.

The Leafs can save half a million by sending Engvall to the Marlies and replace him with a 700 K guy. Mikhey won't be a 2.5 million guy, so that's another 1 million saved. But yes, the Leafs need to move one of the 3+ million 3rd liners.

There are so many cap strapped and so many "Johnsons", their trade value is really low. Leafs have wingers and need cap space, I figure a 6th rounder is all he's worth trade value wise.

Just what Carolina needs -- another middle-6 left-handed forward to go with Niederreiter, Dzingel, Foegle, Martinook and McGinn. Not to mention the fact that you could offer to trade firsts and throw Johnsson in (i.e., without any other pick coming back at all, let alone the second) and Carolina would still say No.
