Comment if your team would be interested in ristolainen. Put aside what you think it would cost only if you’d take him on your squad. Since he is for sure the most polarizing player on this site for the Sabres, it would be nice to know what teams would be interested. A good amount of this sites traffic is buffalo fans and many of their acgms are killed by fans of other teams receiving Risto. We’ve gone through so many years of Risto on the block it’s hard to keep track of who would still be interested. Serious responses only don’t be a loser.

Oh, I'm well aware of that. I'm a Canes fan. My point is that Carolina's a club that truly does not care about temporary logjams, because in half-a-season, that can change. Their goal, therefore, is find talent and fit them in later. It may actually be good for Risto's career to be temporarily sheltered in a 3rd pairing while an organization figures out how to actually use him the right way.

It's the bad analytics, though, that would make the asset price lower. A Risto deal would essentially be all about a bet on whether Risto is actually bad or if its Buffalo that's been handling him badly. It's the same bet that Carolina just took on with Skjei this deadline. With more and more teams using analytics, the smarter FOs have to find inefficiencies elsewhere to stay ahead of the curve.

What's handling him badly?? Playing him too many minutes?? Expecting him to play defense well?? This ACGM seems to have flat cap no buyout. Doesn't leave many teams that are buyers and many that are sellers. Plus maneuvering for next off 's expansion draft...

Playing him too much on a penalty kill would be an example of poor usage. Also having him start too much in defensive zones instead of offensive zones. Hockey is a nuanced game. There are several examples of players who were expected to be better defensive players when their skills lie more on the offensive front, and vice versa, that could be example of poorly-used defensemen.

I look at Anaheim as a fit for Risto. They were once loaded with RHD and that's no longer the case. Risto for Henrique makes sense, but Henrique has a 10 team no list, which may be a problem.

Risto for Ghost makes some sense. Both guys would welcome a change of scene. Ghost also has more term which may be appealing to BUF and is cheaper.

WPG would also be worth a shot. They need some more RHD depth.

Colorado might be interested if he doesn't cost too much.

We could do with a RHD for 1 season to bridge the gap until Timmins has proved himself in the NHL. Ristolainen has 2 years remaining but I figure that we could simply leave Ristolainen exposed in the ED and thus make it just a 1 year thing. That probably wouldn't be worth it if Risto costs more than 2nd + Jost/prospect or something to that effect though.
