What teams would want Ristolainen

Description
Comment if your team would be interested in ristolainen. Put aside what you think it would cost only if you’d take him on your squad. Since he is for sure the most polarizing player on this site for the Sabres, it would be nice to know what teams would be interested. A good amount of this sites traffic is buffalo fans and many of their acgms are killed by fans of other teams receiving Risto. We’ve gone through so many years of Risto on the block it’s hard to keep track of who would still be interested. Serious responses only don’t be a loser.

I could see the Flyers and Chuck Fletcher being interested in him, considering that Braun's a UFA and they have an overload on the left side. Maybe a package centered around Frost and/or Gostisbehere. I could also see the Canes giving Risto a look if the asset price is low, just because they love both Finns and yearly defensive projects. The team that makes the most sense for Risto, though, is Nashville. They have a dearth of solid RHD outside of Ellis, and though Fabbro has a lot of potential, he was really over-slotted last year, and it showed in his analytics.

Frost would be really nice. They don’t need Gostisbehere as you can see from this roster they have a lot of defenseman.

Interesting

I think Ristolainen for Turris and Tolvanen makes some sense.

Nashville lets Fabbro marinate a bit on the 3rd pair and get rid of Turris.

Buffalo gets an upgrade at center and a prospect for Turris having a higher AAV and longer term.

Ghost for Risto makes so much sense.
I think for just a 2nd rounder, you’d have Calgary and Detroit interested too

If Risto's price is genuinely only a 2nd rounder, that SCREAMS Carolina. They are a club that genuinely doesn't care about temporary logjams if the price is right. They just get the talent and fit them in later. They'll just make an expensive 3rd pair for one season and let Seattle pick the guy that they want.

Slavin, Hamilton, Skjei, Gardiner, Bean, Fleury, Keane. There’s no room for him unless they trade Skjei or Gardiner in a 1 for 1. If it’s only for a pick, it’s. Too much money spent on defense and too many offensive d men on 1 team

They should’ve tried to do a Risto + pick for Zucker before he got traded to Pitt

As long as Turris has legit wings to play with. I don’t think we could afford crap seasons from both he and Okposo at 6 mill each.

Flyers have Sanheim and Myers as their top 2 RHD. And Niskanen for one more year. They're an easy pass.

Carolina has Hamilton for one more year, Pesce and a bunch of already signed dman.

Nashville has Ellis and Fabbro. A Rinne for Ristolainen and retention, 1.4 to 2 mil a year, could be possible. Mentioning analytics in a Ristolainen trade may not be the best idea...

Zucker had buffalo on his no trade. Botterill communicated this via Darren Dreger.

Play him as 2C with Skinner and Reinhart. Play Eichel with Olofsson and Kahun, play Cozens with Johansson and Tolvanen.

Obviously this stuff can move around if we make another move for a forward.

Svech is on his ELC for one more season and they are a legitimate Cup contender. Bean and Keane are both waivers-exempt and they have one more spot on the right side. If the price is truly that low, they will take that swing and overload the defense for one season so that Seattle can't damage their roster much, if at all.

I dont think there’s a chance they could get Frost for Risto or hell even Montour. They’d listen if it was Joki for Frost but Buffalo won’t do that. Ghost for Risto makes sense and try to get Ghost to play like before.

I like this as long as we can maneuver some cap. Kahun would put up some numbers with Jack.

There is a lot of risk there, because Risto's analytics are bad, to say the least, in Buffalo. There is a huge question about whether Buffalo's been misusing him, though, because that franchise is known for complete incompetence, and even with his issues, he's a massive minute-muncher that can handle a huge workload without injuries, which is why there's a big buy-low possibility here, much like Brady Skjei was for Carolina (considering that rental +1s got late 1sts in return at the deadline, a late 1st for 4 and a half seasons of a 25-year-old defenseman counts as a buy-low). I would not even be a bit surprised if either Carolina or Nashville (leaning towards the latter) takes a swing if the price is low.

Being a massive minute-muncher poorly is not a good thing. Part of their incompetence was playing Ristolainen more than 3rd pairing minutes and PP. I showed a bit low situation. Rinne for Ristolainen with 1.4 to 2 mil retention. Okay him 15-17 minutes a game and hope Seattle is fooled into taking him in the expansion draft...

It's the bad analytics, though, that would make the asset price lower. A Risto deal would essentially be all about a bet on whether Risto is actually bad or if its Buffalo that's been handling him badly. It's the same bet that Carolina just took on with Skjei this deadline. With more and more teams using analytics, the smarter FOs have to find inefficiencies elsewhere to stay ahead of the curve.

I agree on frost. I think we’d rather have a forward than another D for him though.
