question for avs fans. If there is a CBO do the avs take a garbage contract to buy out for a sweetener? They really dont have a terrible contract.
I would certainly hope so.
Johnson's contract is about $2m too high, but it's not really a CBO-worthy contract as he's still contributing by playing 20+ mins per night with heavy defensive minutes. We also have the capspace to accomodate him until his contract runs out
If there are CBO's I would hope that Sakic would explore acquiring one of Ladd/Boychuk from NYI, or Staal/Smith/Lundqvist from NYR, in addition to a decent prospect and/or pick.
Btw, here's an AGM I did a couple of weeks ago featuring a Boychuk trade/CBO:

From Colorado's perspective though I think deally there won't be a CBO at all, because a lot of other teams stand to benefit more than Colorado, and it would to an extent remove some of the advantage Colorado has via trades/UFA by having more capspace than most teams.
Should there be a CBO though, another idea would be to have a luxury cap/tax scheme, whereby any team that doesn't use a CBO gets to nominate one player who's caphit doesn't count against the cap for 1 season. That would essentially mean that we could nominate Rantanen's $9.3m as a luxury caphit, and effectively add a $10m player for one year.
