I will be the first to say, as a talent exchange, Buffalo wins this transaction, by a wide margin
That being said, it is all the wrong pieces.
I do not watch the Jets, but are both Connor and Ehlers LH LW? How does that help when Buffalo already have Olofsson and Skinner?
Heinola is a decent LHD, but Buffalo is very deep on Defense and has several LHD prospects who may be nearly as good as Heinola.
I love the draft picks, but if Buffalo trades Jack that means they are looking to rebuild and a first from 2021 may not be ready until 2025!
So IMO the Sabres would want a top RW, a couple of really good prospect and a couple of picks.
So Laine, Vesalainen, another prospect, 2020 1st round pick (WPG) and 2020 2nd round pick (WPG).
Buffalo would have 4 picks among the top 40 in this year’s draft.
Unfortunately Buffalo would have TWO DONUT lines instead of one.
I think Buffalo would still say no, but at least it is the parts that Buffalo could use.
What I really hate about getting Laine, is that if we had not jumped started the rebuild, Buffalo would have a good shot at Dubois, Laine or even Matthews and Jack.
But maybe Murray would have drafted Nylander anyway in the 2nd or 3rd OA.
