LMFAO Both are easily matched, Besides you can't offer sheet Barzal for 8 years only 7 years. Not hard to figure that out.

Meh, with Danault already in, I'd rather sign a young bona-fide 1C than a good 2C

Offer sheets compensations are calculated over the first 5 years. So if you sign him for a 6th or 7th year(or in this case 8th) their money is calculated over a 5 year term for the pick compensation that will be payed to the team. In this case bringing up the aav over those 5 years to 17 mil.

8 x $10,700,000 = $85,600,000
$85,600,000 / 5 = $17,120,000

Lowering the term wouldnt reduce the picks at 10.7 mil. You'd need to lower it to 5 years and $10,568,589 to reduce the pick compensation.

It would need to be 4 firsts. It gets matched hands down if not. It’s just that 17 mil is ridiculous and I think it’s not even allowed.

Oh sorry. The aav doesnt get changed just how the pick compensation is calculated. It would still be 10.7 mil AAV over 8 years (8 years still not allowed but lets work with it) but it is calculated as 17.1 for the offer sheet compensation.

Totally okay. Don't listen to that one Redwingsfan: he can be needlessly mean on this site for literally no reason. I think he thinks he knows everything so he has the right to be mean to people he's never met before because it's online and not in person. I'm sure his parents are proud.

I think the offer for Barzal is an OUTSTANDING idea. Even if it is matched (which I am not so sure it will be), it handcuffs the Isles to a massive cap-hit, one they really cannot afford at the moment. Lou hasn't always been inclined to pay his players AND Elliot Friedman has mentioned that the he feels their is truth to the Canadiens offer sheeting Barzal. Regardless of what a fan on this sight might say to you, I think it's a cool idea. smile

Thanks bud. I think it makes sense to. They did Aho last year, so why not try it again.
