They aren't high on their player until they find out another team wants them... then suddenly they become the biggest piece on the team.

If I were to gauge his value I'd say a mid to high 2nd round pick.

I would disagree. I think middle first. Not a Buffalo fan but I don't think his stock has fallen that quick.

Well.. who knows, because I just offered Puljujarvi a second ago and I got told that they need centre’s, and if they get that offer they would keep Mittlestadt.

Puljujarvi's worth about a high 3rd but Holland wants a 1st... halo

Have you seen him play. He's a massive defensive liability and his production isn't good either. He's like a less talented version of Yakupov.

Some for sure, but that’s all fan bases. If that’s the return, this Buf fan would be inclined to ride out mitts in the hopes he finds it. He’s got a pretty high ceiling, mid/high 2C. Not looking like he’ll hit it, but would rather roll the dice with him then go for a second

His defense isn’t nearly as bad as you make it. Production isn’t quite there yet though for sure.

His defense is bad. He had a -15 playing in the AHL... and wasn't even a star there.

I have a feeling like he won't turn into much if Buffalo keeps him but he will have a breakout season if they trade him and it will make any trade they make look bad.

Maybe. But I think you get what I mean that I’d rather take the chance. Also plus minus is terrible, and generally a team stat more then anything. He’s not winning Selkes for sure, but he’s not a train wreck either. He was sent down this year because of his production, not defense.

I would have to disagree. He is worth a 2nd round pick in my opinion, I think this draft we could probably trade him for one of Ottawa’s seconds.

Even if his offence wasn't there if he played solid defense like Jankowski he would have stayed up. It's a sum of the whole player not just production or defense.

It's been reported that Holland wanted Lias Andersson plus the lower of NYR's 1sts for Puljujarvi.

Right but he has always been known for his offense was drafted for offense. He’s learning the d side more. His overall game needs work for sure. Idk what his price would be, so I’m not gonna say. I will say if all that’s offered is a second, I’m gonna roll the dice with him

Mittelstadt is only 1 or 2 seasons away from a bust. His value is low right now.

You won't be able to find anything to support that his defense wasn't bad. He was a liability on both sides of the ice.

Plus minus is definitely tied to the team. Last time I looked, the Rochester Americans had most of their players solidly in the plus column. That does make plus minus a problem here. I didn't watch amerks games, but I'm guessing they were trying to get him d zone starts to round out his game, it's hard to make a case that it worked, plus he had some highlight plays (saw highlights on amerks site), but it wasn't like he was killing it in the ahl on offense either. I would say his value is a 2nd, and he probably ends up as a middle 6 winger eventually, but I would rather keep him and hope I'm wrong. It's not like the sabres have proven that they can find talent outside of their top ten picks. Bonus, our clueless owners just gave our terrible gm a vote of confidence for some reason, and mittlestadt was his first ever draft pick, I don't see him moving mittelstadt, especially not for a 2nd.

Most teams won't want to pay what they need to for an unproved project player like that, and for what the realistic return is they're probably better off keeping him

If that’s the case Jost is worth a top 10 pick and Mittlestadt can’t hold Jost’s jock.

Based on what? That he just turned 22? That he should have played another year in the NCAA? Or that unlike Mittlestadt he has been able to carve out a role on one of the best teams in the NHL and was on track for 30pts all while playing in the bottom 6 averaging less than 13minutes of ice time. Yeah that’s a bad take.

Ok I really looked at it. I've clearly overvalued Mittelstadt and undervalued Jost. Still not a fan of Josts game, but I really can't come up with a justification for my previous value of Mittelstadt.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh. Guys that get drafted in the top 10 like those 2 are polarizing if they aren’t tearing it up. And every fan has a little more love for ‘their’ guys than they should.
