Description
This obviously isn't something that would ever actually happen, but since everyone else is doing it...

Kopitar would obviously need to waive his trade protection or have Buffalo on his 7-team trade list that begins on July 1. Not sure how the clauses will work since normally the clause would have been in place on draft day, but this summer's draft is going to happen after July 1 when the clause supposedly downgrades from a full NMC to a modified NTC.

Détails additionnels:
The Kings aren't willing to move out of the 1st round this season, but they'd likely downgrade a few picks if it got them Eichel. Buffalo gets LA's 1st round pick next summer, which will likely be in the low-to-mid teens.

Terrible for the Sabres.

How do you figure? They get an elite two-way center for a few seasons, a bonafide price-controlled 1C/2C in Vilardi, an improved chance at the draft lottery this summer (even if they don't win the lottery, it's a guaranteed top 7 OA pick), and another lottery pick next summer.

The 2020 1sts basically cancel each other out so it's Eichel for a soon to be 33 year old Kopitar who makes the same amount of money as Eichel, Vilardi and a 2021-1st, hardly seems worth Eichel imo.

Yeah, that Wayne Gretzky trade keeps looking better and better for the Kings every day. Of course, Wayne isn't the player that Eichel is . . . Wayne is what, 60 years old now?

Just yanking your chain.

Imagine going from living in LA to Buffalo. That's about as brutal as it gets.

I don't agree that the 2020 1sts cancel each other out. Do you know how much it costs to move into the top 5, even moving up only a few spots? That's the difference in getting to draft a player like Byfield or Stutzle vs drafting someone like Holtz or Perfetti. They're all very good players, but to say that they're a wash is absurd.

They're still just prospects and if it costs
Jack ****ing Eichel to move up a few spots it's so not worth it, the guy is elite!

If that was the only return, then absolutely not. They're getting an elite two-way guy in Kopitar, a quality 1C option in Vilardi, and another lottery pick in 2021, all in addition to moving up several spots in this year's draft.
