Win Win for WSH and BUF

Description
Trade only happens if Marco Rossi is available with BUF pick.

BUF desperately needs to become a good team and Kuznetsov instantly does that. Having an Eichel-Kuznetsov 1-2 punch would be awesome. And Skinner's shot with Kuznetsov's elite passing would be a perfect match. And before anyone says no way BUF makes that trade, did you hear Pegula's and Botterilli's comments yesterday and Eichels today? They are DESPERATE to take the next step and Kuznetsov instantly notches them up a level. They can't wait 1-2 years for Rossi or any other player, they need results now.

Caps do a quick re-tool on the fly while staying a very competitive team. Rossi-McMichael-Protas will be one of the best, if not the best, center depths in the league for a long time (already have Backstrom too). Add in Vrana, Wilson, Sprong, and hopefully another high end forward with their 1st round pick (Lapierre, Bourque, Perreault, Mysak, maybe luck out with Jarvis) will make a top tier top 9. Alexeyev, Fehervary, and Seigenthaler is a really strong backend though they will need to find 1 more top 4 piece. Then having Samsonov-Vanecek in net would be the cherry on top. The window will be wide open for a long, long time.

I traded Panik to anyone because he doesn't deserve to be on a 4th line. He deserves top 9 minutes.

Move Kempny and brought back the boi Mike Green.

With the extra money I splurged on Hall. He might not sign a 2 year deal but he might not get a better deal out there, at least from a top tier team like the Caps.

McMichael is probably not a NHL C right now but put him between 2 very good NHLrs and he should be fine. If he isn't Eller can handle it for a year. Protas might be able to handle it too.

Still $4M to mess around with.

IF the Caps ever decided to move Kuznetsev, rest assured, they are getting more than a 1st round pick.

Feel you are very light on that return! I would suggeat your missing a RD in that deal - say like Jokiarju.......

He maybe a 2nd line centre in Washington, but that because of Backstrom. He would be a 2nd line centre in Buffalo because of Eichel. But for a lot of teams, he is a 1st line option.

I wouldn’t trade a top 7 pick for a 28 year old Kuzy let alone a 20 year old top 4 RHD on top. Maybe a 2021 1st and conditional 2022 pick and a prospect or two.

Yeah Washington will gladly trade you a 1C who scores 70-80 points a year for a 2021 first round pick lmfao. You realize that Coleman got a 1st round pick. People on this site are embarrassing. A top 20! Center can only get the capitals a 1st and maybe another pick. Okay capitals might give Buffalo a 1st and a prospect for Eichel.

Guess that depends on how bad you wanna win.🤷‍♂️

For a team that hasn't seen the playoffs in almost a decade, it maybe worth arguing it's a trade they do.

You think the Sabres want to give up 10 years of control on a player that could end up being as good as Kuzy whos already approaching the pinnacle of his career. They arent giving up picks and young talented players to get older and more expensive. The Sabres also dont have much cap room and cant take on significant amount of cap with out sending a similar amount back

Maybe right. Issue here is that there is nothing in the UFA market. So unlike defense, where outside a select few teams would be selling low, a centre just has more value. He is only 28..... so he has 4-5 years of productive puck, so the deal is worth it.

Now if you wanna argue the term and Dylan Cozens - that changes the conversation. But, a 1st and a high end prospect isn't a big ask here at all.

Again, how bad do they want back in the playoffs?

The Pegula factor must be considered.

I wouldn't say 28 is old.

Sabres fans have been talking kid development for years, and yet still missing the playoffs. So, if it isn't Kuzy, it's clear something has to give.

At some point you dive into the deep part of the pool to push.

Kuzy doesnt put them in the playoffs. He puts them in a situation where they have to cut cap, its the same reason I'd want to move Reinhart, who they would struggle resigning after this trade as well.

Reinhart? Really? I am shocked to hear that honestly.

I can see the long term concerns, but a willingness to move Reinhart without a deal I find surprising.

What's your long term thinking? Curious.

yes who is the pipeline (at forward)? Mitts, Cozens, and Pekar. I think their pipeline is at one of its low points, and Botts has patch worked this team up top with terrible contracts

Long term, Id move Reinhart for at least 1 NHLer that I could gamble on being their #2C then a couple of prospects and a high pick. Id rather spread the money and talent out across the orig. This is what should have been done with ROR, and they'd be in much better condition. but they cant have nearly 50% of their cap tied into 5 players (Eichel Skinner, Okposo, Olofsson, Reinhart)

Well, both the Skinner and Okposo contracts are ugly. Not helping. Skinner was overpaid by about $1-1.5 million. Okposo at the time was a fit, but wow..... just wow.

Comparing Tampa trading a late 1st for Coleman who has a very friendly contract has 0 comparisons to Buffalo trading a top 7 pick and young top 4 RHD for Kuzy. Tampa is a powerhouse looking for a cup and need players like Coleman. Yes Kuzy would instantly make the sabres better but he’s not what they need to make them to a cup winning team.

Kutzy has peaked... he would/will need to play with elite talent to have any improvement for him...
While uber talented, Kutzy just doesnt love to play hockey.... you can see it in his game. Here one game, gone the next two.... when hes on hes a great #2 centre... but 40% of the time you get that guy that only looks for points. No defense, no skating away from puck, not talking his man.

Buffalo can do much better than Kutzy for a high pick in this draft.

he literally scored 30 points and was the capitals best player during their cup win. he was the main reason they won? Coleman is a 3rd line winger kuzy is a 1c...yeah its silly I had to explain why his value is more than a 1st....
