I want to win the Stanley Cup as much as the next person. The reality of the situation is: we have to play Carey Price (albeit, a little overrated but still good) who could steal a best of 3 series. So, a nice consolation prize is winning the draft lottery, picking Lafreniere, and extending our window substantially.

Price is not as good as people think he is. I'd be pretty shocked if he was the only reason we lost this series

Remember that if someone would offer sheet Murray the RFA compensation would be a 1st and 3rd, if not a 1st, 2nd, 3rd if someone went crazy. I do not expect an offer sheet, but Murray's trade value would be more in line with that 1st+3rd compensation level. (while maybe not actual picks, but value)

It’s 3 games. If Price carries the habs for 2 games, it’s not inconceivable to think that the habs can win 1/3.

If they lose to the habs they have an 11.1% chance of getting a top 3 pick. (Although the first part of the lottery would’ve already happened by then, so it’d be a bit different)

Yeah it’s highly unlikely. This penguin team is scary good and if guentzel is back I doubt they lose 5 games all playoffs

It is highly unlikely for sure. I’m just saying that if the pens lose 3 games, it doesn’t necessarily mean they should start a full scale rebuild.
