probably not. He's good for at least a point per game on any team

Ryan Poluck is not a top-pairing defender, at least not yet, and has never projected to be a top pairing guy. That Marner trade is quite awful and Toronto would never do it.

Check out Pulock on Natural Statrick. This year he was a negative player in a lot of ways. The Islanders are one of the luckiest teams in the league, PDO has them above 1 for over a year. Its really hard to know what most of their players are or are not. Almost the entire teams is negative possession players and most have negative expected goals including Pulock. Marner is better than everything in that trade and its not at all close.

Barzal since Barry Trotz has taken over: 150 GP 37 goals, 85 assist, 122 points 0.81 ppg. Remember he had 85 points in his rookie year.

Might just be me, but if they got Laf, I wouldn't be trading one of the big 4, at least not yet. Adding him allows the Leafs to improve their already incredible offense without investing more money into it. I'd just make a trade/signing for a serviceable Dman and run that ****.

Marner would put up 60-65 pts in the isles system. Removing pulock and beauvillier, adding Marner doesn't make the isles a better team now.

They're not trading a top pair RHD when they have no surplus in that position.

what are you talking about? He is absolutely a top pairing defenseman by WAR, GAR, SPAR. Literally every advanced metric has him at a borderline elite defenseman.

I could easily see that happening, but they at least give it a good think over. There isn't much of a better offensive jolt than adding Mitch Marner, and the way the team plays defence is just so elite that they could still be a top defensive team without him.

The cap in and out is about the same once you extend pulock, and saves you money the year after when you have to bring back Beauvillier.

I see both sides, and respect the opinion that they say no.

Right now it makes no sense for the isles. I would consider it next summer, but until dobson develops into a #1 pulock isn't getting traded.

Of course you would say that. It especially funny considering Trotz's system was the same in Washington and yet they were far better across the board. According to natural stattrick, the Islanders are just extremely lucky. Only 5 of their players have a positive expected goals percentage. In case you don't understand what that means, it means that the Islanders according to the chances they create vs what they give up should usually be in the negative. No one in the world survives for long with numbers like that. They lack talent and have been lucky. As you yourself likes to say, numbers don't lie.

They don't have a top pair RHD. Pulock plays that position but that doesn't mean he's good at it. According to his advanced metrics, he's below average. Much like their whole team. Most of the team has a PDO above 1, that is the best metric to determine a players luck, the Islanders are not as good as their fans think they are.

Now you use natstattrick lol - yes, the isles get "outplayed" because trotz doesn't care if the opposing team spends time in our zone, as long as shots are kept to the outside.

You know who else got lucky? Morgan Rielly with his insane shooting percentage last season. At least he got a Norris vote! He came back down to earth this season.

Pelech also has negative metrics in most important stats. His PDO is above 1 as well. The team just was never that good, for over a year they outscored their expected goal share and that just doesn't last. Its like when a player scores a bunch of goals one year but had a shooting % that was incredibly high, it will average out and you'll see them fall back to earth. Like William Karlsson, he shot way above his career normals and when it fell back to normal numbers he was a 25 goal scorer. Still had the same number of chances and shots but didn't score at a ridiculous percentage.

according to his advanced metrics, he is a top pairing RHD. He is 2nd among all NHL defenseman in goals above replacement, hes in the 81st percentile defensively, and is top 10 in SPAR (standing points above replacement) since the 17-18 season. Shut the f*ck up lol

I mean 72 points was probably a bit much for Rielly, yes, but he came back down well below what he actually is this season. He played nearly the whole season injured and still put up good numbers. Healthy he's good for at least 60 points.

Most important stats ha! - he has better defensive metrics than any player on the leafs and he is elite on the PK.
