Description
NYR could use a bridge on the Left Side D. Lindholm would be a good 2 year fit on a reasonable deal for that left side until the kids are ready to take over top line responsibilities. The right side right now is crowded with a lot of talent and I still have hope for Trouba to improve his game with us so unfortunately I think that makes TDA the odd man odd. He's playing himself to a hefty contract and so is Fox (eventually) and that would be a lot of money invested into the right side. Let me know what you guys (ANA and NYR fans) think and if you have any other suggestions.

We probably won't be able to keep lindholm with kakko fox and mika needing new deals which makes me hesitant to make this trade, or any RD for a stopgap LD type of trade for that matter

LOL Rangers decline. Even 1 for 1. Just gonna assume you haven't looked at the analytics, but the fact that you're knowingly treating Lindholm as a 2 year stop gap and trading a guy who outscored everyone on the Ducks by at least 10 points and can be signed to a 7 year deal for only a few more hundred k than Lindholm is damning enough. Then you add the 1st and it becomes funny.

Can't imagine thinking DeAngelo is better than Lindholm. What nonsense.

Over the last 2 seasons, Deangelo has been worth twice as many points in the standings as Lindholm despite playing 600 less minutes and having Marc Staal instead of Manson/Montour.

Is there a place on Evolving Hockey where I can understand what things like «EVD» or «WAR» mean?

Lol ADA is so overrated by NYR fans it’s hilarious. The guy has around a 48% corsi even tho he starts 56% of his shifts in the ozone. How do you start that many shifts in the ozone and still give up more shots against?

Here's the 3 part explainer from the EH guys on WAR: https://hockey-graphs.com/2019/01/16/wins-above-replacement-history-philosophy-and-objectives-part-1/
https://hockey-graphs.com/2019/01/17/wins-above-replacement-the-process-part-2/
https://hockey-graphs.com/2019/01/18/wins-above-replacement-replacement-level-decisions-results-and-final-remarks-part-3/

And EVD is an even strength defensive component of WAR.

EV=even strength, EVD=even strength defense (EVO=even strength offense) WAR/GAR/SPAR=wins/goals/standings points above replacement, PPO= PP offense, SHD=short handed defense draw and take relate to penalties

What's their xSPAR? (Adjusted for shooting if you can do that) also SPAR is adjusted for QoT and QoC, so him playing with the tire fire known as Staal isn't as big of a factor

Not sure where anyone gave an opinions. Just gave you the on ice results.

Deangelo's CA is negative relative to team...
If you want to know how a team can have that bad of a Corsi against. Check out the Dallas Stars transition from 16-17 to 17-18 on defense despite having the same roster. That's the difference that Lindy Ruff's system makes. It's the worst in the league, and it affects the whole team. See Pionk and Shattenkirk's magical "improvment" upon leaving the Rangers defensive system. Account for that AND the fact that Deangelo has one of the worst defenders as his partner and his performance is actually ridiculously good.

Feel free to look at the RAPM numbers if you want to have his performance properly adjusted for zone starts. He's above average there lol.

Even more of a disparity. 1.5 for Lindholm. 5.7 for Deangelo. With the TOI disparity on top of that, it's a lot.

Accounting for all that stuff. Here's the xSPAR/60 (to account for TOI differences) rankings for all dmen with 2000 mins played over the last 2 seasons (super large sample size).

I think you're worrying about that a little prematurely. You'll have more than $18 million from the expiring contracts of Henrik Lundqvist, Marc Staal and Brendan Smith alone. Assuming your three stars get $10, $10 and $5 million, that just uses up the $18 million, and Hampus isn't going to require more than an additional $2.5 million, which you should be able to negotiate even with Kreider's pay raise.

I wasn't forgetting Buchnevich, I was discounting him as significant. Shesterkin might be another matter if he gets a John Gibson-like hike.
