This is why he would have to be traded to Toronto (or another place) first as he would have to waive his no trade which then the new team can decide if they want to honour the no trade or not if not then they can trade him (so they can trade him to Montreal)

You do realize that rebuilding teams trade picks for assets they often don’t plan on using all the pick they acquire.

No way he's getting under 7M. He has better point totals than Taylor Hall and their will be rollbacks meaning that players won't even be getting their full contracts.

Sandin should spend another year in the AHL where he can put on muscle and eat up big minutes

If going to the UFA market this year, I would take Toffoli before Hoffman. Toffoli is a Toronto guy, too. But he can play well in his zone, and would be cheaper. We need forwards who are good defensively.

But Mtl knows he doesn't want to be there, I find it pretty unlikely they'll want to acquire him, especially as a big big part of a major trade.
