Also included the Tor trade for fun, but really wondering if NYR would be interested in that trade.

Zach Smith buyout is 1,083,333

Brendan Smith is 2,738,333

The cap savings is minimal, but there. (1,655,333)

Dubas won't trade Nylander unless its an overpayment. Leafs are in win now and that 9th OA might not be ready for a while.

I would love for the Jackets to trade for Saad, he had his top 2 goal scoring years with the Jackets....31 & 24.
I would only give up 1st with a signed extension negotiated in advance.

No teams are giving up a first for Saad unless there's an extension. Especially not the Rangers who are not contenders yet

Murphy helps you win now, and you free up a touch of cap you could use to sign another player. Do you guys have any prospects ready to come up next year?

I think the rangers would come out of their rebuild with a move like this, they get a top 6 player for nothing off their roster and free up some cap. If they were to have a bad season next year, they could also flip saad at the deadline for a first.

It's still not wise to give a first for a rental who doesn't exactly fits your needs

Not sure if I like the deal. Sure it frees up cap, but Murphy doesn't really solidify the defense. Sure he plays 21 mins/night, but he gives away the puck a lot, has poor Corsi/Fenwick (could also be because Chicago is a poor team overall), seems like a decent PK player/defensively. Doesn't exactly offer a 2-way presence.

Not sure if the 9th overall pick would immediately help. Maybe if someone like Holtz/Raymond/Rossi/Drysdale is available there.

Saves the Leafs a couple million but I don't think it's worth trading our 2nd line winger for a defenceman who had a career year (and is often injured), + a prospect with high potential (who may also be a couple of years away)

when on a bad team, I like to look at relative Corsi and Fenwick instead of it on its own, which he is both positive compared to the rest of the team, but yeah I dont think this fits the bill for what Toronto would trade Nylander for at the moment. Maybe another first round exit and they feel the need to shake things up a bit, but they arent quite there yet.

What do you think has more value, Marchenko or your 1st? Also, do you think Strome would be a solid fit there as well, possibly needing a 2c? Trying to gauge value for a big for fun post

It is hard to say where our #1 pick will be. Is it based on how this mini playoff pans out? The pick could be anywhere from #8 to #20 (I can’t see Jackets making it to the conference finals). Marchenko has had great reviews, but I haven’t really seen him play. Based on CBJ last 5 or so years’ track record of scouting/drafting, Odds are Marchenko is going to be very good, and probably more valuable than the pick. That being said, Strome would probably fit in Very well, He seems to score more than Wennberg, and seems to play responsibly in his own end. Jackets are actually banking on Foudy coming in and filling 2C in a couple years time.

teams give up more for lower quality players at the deadline every single year and that's only for them to play a small fraction of the season. Maybe the rangers won't do it without extension but to say no team will is rediculous. Hawks got a 1st and a 5th for Hartman not too long ago who hadn't proven much of anything at the time. Thats just one example, it happens multiple times every year. Saad is only 27 and we retained 50% and gave them another 1 mil ish savings in the swap of the two vets.

Saad is easily worth a 1st; on pace for 30 goals and one of the better two way wingers in the game. Teams were reported to offer a 1st for the last 2 TDL and last offseason and Hawks wanted a 1st and a good prospect.

Yeah, dumb comment after it was reported the last 2 TDL and last off season teams were offering a 1st for Saad and Hawks wanted at least a 1st and a good prospect. Guy on pace this past season for 30 goals, one of the better two way players in the game, and hitting his peak at 27 is easily worth a 1st.

If there's an extension sure he is. However a 1st in a deep draft for a rental is a bad idea especially for the Rangers who don't really need him

Too much to give up for Nylander. I like Nylander a lot but the 9th OA plus Murphy is too much. Hawks can grab Lundell or Holtz both of who have a chance to be ready right away or at most 1 year out. Murphy is way too solid of a D player and on a great cap hit to give him up that easily.

I agree for a middle to earlier middle pick, but not a later round pick. Plenty of teams would give up a later round pick for Saad and the Hawks should not be willing to move him for a late 1st right now. Maybe at the TDL but even then I'd hesitate..he brings too much as a two way winger to the Hawks.
