Description
Putting Skjei next to Hamilton, to me, would maximize the offensive potential of our lineup and allow Brindy to shelter both Skjei and Vatanen's occasional deficiencies in their own end. Playing TVR instead of Fleury/Eddy allows us to play an all-strong-side lineup.

All of our defensemen (yes, even Eddy!) have been over 50% Corsi with our team, so there's no real bad choices here. In the end, TVR's no defensive slouch, and his metrics are pretty good for a bottom-pairing guy, so to me, it's ideal to play an all-strong-side defense unless TVR or Vats really craps the bed in the first game back. If either of them do that, replace one of the two with Fleury.

Eddy has been a sh*tshow, I don't care if TvR or Haydn get the other spot, as long as Eddy is sitting in the pressbox, I'm good.

Eddy's CF% is actually 51%, not 45%, when talking about even-strength play, which is what Corsi is usually used for. Generally speaking, players that are heavily used in man-down, PK situations are going to be on the lower end of the "all situations" Corsi.

Pesce shoulder surgery was the very beginning of March right? They gave a 4-6 month recovery timeline. July will be 4 months. I wonder if there’s any chance he plays at some point. If there is, with the Canes being +6600 (one of the odds I saw), they could be a hell of a value bet to win it all.

That's just even strength. Also he's still a drag relative to his team. Carolina is one of the top possession teams in the league, so even the weaker possession players have numbers relative to the league. His Even strength CF rel is -4.6

I wrote the clarification above. Corsi is generally most useful in the even-strength realm. I personally find CorRel difficult to use with teams that are so good at possession, because in many ways, the FO specifically has built a team and roster in a way that performs in such a manner, and have identified certain guys that fit in with that. With Carolina, in particular, you can have an absolutely stellar Corsi and still have a negative CorRel, because everyone is phenomenal. I tend to rely on CorRel more when teams are mediocre-to-god-awful, but even then, some of those guys don't exactly pan out when you move them to a better possession club. It's complicated. It could well be that a guy like Adam Fox, who has one of the best Corsi's relative to his club, is more of a middle-of-the-pack guy with Carolina, because the Rangers are a god-awful possession club outside of Zibanejad/Panarin/Fox/Buchnevich. It's not always cut and dry.

I'd argue that CF rel is equally important to good possession teams as it is to bad possession teams. You can expect a good possession player on a bad team to still put up good numbers on a good team. A weak player relative to his team, to me is more likely an indicator that that player is being dragged to good results, rather than driving the play, which is ultimately what you're looking for with possession.

Sometimes it works that way, and sometimes it doesn't. It's just an indicator of something that is perhaps true with particular players. I just find CorRel to be more reliable with bad clubs and mediocre clubs than good clubs.
