is it though? CM might turn out to be a solid NHL player but the short time in the NHL hasn't gone well at all. Cozen is a solid prospect but who know if thatll translate into a great NHL career? he had a solid WHL season but he still needs to advance his game to the NHL level. that is either really easy for players, difficult, or impossible. Cirelli right now is a solid 2nd line center that can produce 50 points a year. idk wht Tampa takes the risk besides cap reasons when they already have a really solid player that is NHL ready.

why? comparable player is Protas Washington's 3rd round pick same draft. Cozen production looks to be barely better than his? the word untouchable is reserved for players like Dahlin. like clearly generational players not 19 year olds playing in the WHL. im not saying he wont be good but its silly to say hes untouchable. what if AVs offered you byram?

Tough to say what Cirelli would look like at 2C. 50 pts on TB isn't necessarily a guarantee that he scores that on a team with a lot less firepower than TB. Teams have to concentrate on the top 2 lines with TB which gives Cirelli the less defensive matchups.
I wouldn't give up your future 2C and 3C plus a 2nd for him.

cozen's is most likely going to solve the sabres' problems at 2C, i know that cirelli would also solve those problems but he's going to do that at a much higher cap hit. the sabres need to sign dahlin and jokiharju next offseason. adding cirelli's big contract on top of eichel, reinhart, and skinner's contracts leaves the sabres in cap hell for next season when they have to give 9mil+ to dahlin. the sabres are super high on cozens and i don't think they're even thinking about trading him before they can see what he does in the nhl. he's shown that he possess so many elite skills that will most likely (hopefully) translate into the nhl. also the sabres have their two defensive stars in dahlin and jokiharju so byram isn't necessarily needed in buff.

okay Cozen is playing in the 3rd best junior league.... scoring at a 1.6 ppg rate?
Protas is playing in the same league and was draft in the 3rd round scoring at a 1.4 ppg rate.

draft position seems relevant..... and WHL is the 3rd best junior league its not like hes Mcmichaels scoring 102 points in 52 games in the OHL. id say Cozen will be a fine player but I remember a time when Nylander and CM were going to be better than other players also...…

it was more of a hypothetical thing with Byram but I was more or less wondering why you were immediately shutting down a trade that makes you better today. Eichel isn't getting any young and at some point you need to make the jump for "pretender" to condenter. now idk if this trade even helps them to the level they need to pass TO bost or tampa

Ummm Cirelli has been the 2C for Tampa all year so I don't know how other teams can concentrate on TB top two lines without having to deal with Cirelli. Also if follow the Lighting you would know that Cirelli gets harder defensive match ups against the other teams top lines playing a more two way game, he is already proving himself to be in the yearly Selke talk. Without looking at the stats I am sure he gets more defensive zone starts and of his points they have come with averaging less the 30 seconds on the PP per game. I feel you are grossly undervaluing Cirelli.

Protas had a complete breakout year on a good team. Problem with him right now he dominates by size, and doesn't play a NHL-ready game. He's so much bigger and stronger then everyone he doesn't need skill. McMichael is unbelievable. I saw him play a few times last year and his off-the-charts IQ is something else. However, every team has elite producers at the Jr. Level. In Toronto, our prized possession is Nick Robertson. He is a small highly skilled player who was days off being part of the 2020 draft. This year in the O, generally a harder league he was over a goal a game and finished the season with 55 + 31 in 46 games. Problem is he is small, and I can't see him being better then 2nd line.

However, none of these players can compare to Cozens. He has the ideal combination of size and skill with an inert ability to see the ice. He simply plays the perfect, NHL-ready game.

He has never had more than 43 points, yet he's a 50 point player?

Solid season? Cozens was runner up mvp of the league and averaged 1.67 ppg and was more than a ppg player at the world juniors. He's a top 10 prospect in the entire league

Play style. Cirelli is like a Bergeon, defensively responsible center with great offensive skills too. Hard working and dependale etc. Cozens plays a different game. Cozens is all about speed and power forward-esque plays. He gets dirty goals and has elite offensive skills (passing, shooting, awareness). Isn't afraid to be physical either, does whatever it takes to win. Won't be as good defensively or in the faceoff circle but will dominate the ice when he is playing which is something Cirelli doesn't do.

averages are hard.... take his points divide by games played and multiply it by 82..... your welcome 50points in an 82 game season.. yeah he plays in the WHL not the OHL or NCAA

yeah i would take mcmichaels over Cozens but agree to disagree. every team has an Elite prospect till they struggle. either way im not a fan of Buffalo but i hate the leafs so hopefully he works out for you guys

yeah i agree with you why would Tampa risk 2 players not reaching their potential when they have a great young player already playing a 2c spot

I meant he faced less defensive players. I know he is a really good defensive center. I didn't get to watch a lot of TB this season, but I saw his most common linemates were Palat, Killorn, Johnson and Stamkos so it appeared they changed things up a bit throughout the season. Also, a PK guy and not much of a PP guy.
Not trying to underappreciate him, but more pointing out that being on a 50 point pace and having 4 guys ahead of him shows that teams have a lot more to defend against than if went to a team with less firepower.

Cozens has proven he could have been a top 3 overall pick. Cirelli is also way older. Cozens could be a Cirelli in 2 year and score more...
