There are a lot of qualified players eligible for this team, and seeing as it would hypothetically exist in 2 years it is hard to know who of the older guys might regress, and who of the younger guys might improve enough to make it.

This is a very strong offensive team, with one of the top powerplays and top 2 lines of forwards. They have extreme depth on the wings, but have an absence of strong centers. This is due in part to the fact that Kuznetsov is suspended from international play, but also that center is generally not the Russians strongest position. This, alongside the bottom 2 defence, is where I think a lot of less known KHL players could make the team. This is not a particularly strong defence core either. I think the defence will have to overperform for this team to be able to beat the likes of Canada, the US, and Sweden. However, they definitely have the goaltending to pull through some upsets.

These are my picks for the team and the lines, and I welcome any opinions on who you would take instead, but please be respectful. There are a lot of qualified players and I made a lot of decisions based on who I think will get picked, rather than who is necessarily the best.

Scratches are defencemen who are very close to making it.

For those of you who are unaware, Kuznetsov was banned from IIHF and international hockey until 2023, meaning he cannot participate. I also put guys like Anisimov and Kovalchuk in cuts because I believe that he will retire prior to any 2022 tournament.
