Description
Cozens is our 2C

Don't want to put too much pressure on him out of the gate so Tierney is the perfect 2C stop gap that can drop down and be a very good 3C for years once Cozens is ready for 2nd line.

4C... come on. He's a very good 3C who might be able to hold down 2C, but I wouldn't bet on that.

Tierney is actually a decent 2C. Sure, a team is better if he plays as 3C but wouldn't qualify him as 4C. And it's not long-term, just let Cozens some time and start as 3C; switch them afterwards.

What is he supposed to do, trade for Barkov?

Tierney is a good center who can fill in the top 6 until cozens is ready and for a team that should face cap troubles with all the pending RFAs, he won't break the bank.

This is a very, very reasonable strategy for a team that doesn't expect to make the playoffs next season.

And before you think that I'm being snide, remember that we all expect BOTH of my crummy local teams to miss the playoffs next year with you.

I like the move for Tierney. Adds the depth, but to call it getting perfect player for them.. eeeh.

You're making it sound like he should barely be on the 3rd line. He's better than kerfoot

my point is everyone saying we need to trade for a 2C is kind of foolish. Why give up good assests for a player like Cirelli, Danault, Johansen etc when Cozens is going to be our 2C after maybe 60-100 games ?

give up lower level assets to get a guy like Tierney that can play 2C until Cozens is ready and then Tierney can become a really nice 3C, hes a solid all around player. Hes not going to put up 70 points but you need guys like him on great teams

well because you don't know what cozens will be, but even assuming he can be a 2C down the line, you don't want to rush him into center. He can play wing until he's really ready. I still don't think this is a playoff team. The reason people say that you need to spend assets on a very high end 2C is because every year that you don't put a competitive team around eichel you (a) waste his career and (b) Decrease the odds of him resigning and (c) Increase the odds of him being tired enough of the team to want out early

Tierney is young and talented he will be a 2C in his prime and at worst very good 3c for anyone to argue a 30-50 point player who is 25 is a 4C is dumb period.

Good post, too much negative chatter. He would be much better than some of the other efforts to get a #2 C.
I agree he would be a huge upgrade over any center we have other than Jack.
There have been posts put together by Ottawa fans who also like any either Montour or Miller more or less one for one without adding a prospect.
Here is my post and you can read the comments there as well. https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/329236&post_id=1434937
With a better #2C I would imagine Skinner would get his 30, Kahun would excell, Johansson would be more comfortable playing on the 3rd line and this team would be in the hunt.
I would rather trade Miller over Montour, but what ever gets the job done.
