Nashville Draft Pick Exchange

Description
Just wondering if either team would be interested in this.

Buffalo gets the #2 C they've been looking for; Nashville gets the draft pick to replace him.

The team is incomplete because the bottom 6 is in such flux and I have no idea how it's even likely to shake out.

Many of the free agent signing figures are from Evolving Hockey; where mine vary, mine are higher.

You're going to turn into Toronto with the lack of defensive forwards. Picking up two defensive forwards would help, just need to figure out who comes out of the lineup.

It is probably a good trade for both teams, but as a Sabres fan, I am not a big Johansen fan does not seem like his heart is in playing hockey.

No reason for Mitts on the 4th line, just put him in the A. NSH might consider that if its top 5 but not for 7

Thank you. I appreciate the positive input from you. It means more to me than coming from others.

I will be really interested to see what Kreuger does with Cozens, Mittelstadt and Thompson at the outset of the new year.

If they are all on the opening roster this offseason went horribly wrong

I wouldn't be surprised to see all 3 start in the A. Unless Cozens has an insane preseason.

This has so many problems. Johansen at $8m to be your 3C in two years is not the guy to go after.
We've got no line to match up with anyone's top line defensively, and no PK unit and definitely no 2nd PK line.
Defense and goaltending is no better.
There won't be enough money to sign our good RFAs.

Yeah, but it's hard to see what the alternative is. Who else is going to take those three spots? The trade shown here obviates virtually any other significant acquisitions. If instead you have $8 million more in cap space, what are you gonna do? Re-sign Haula, Girgensons and Larsson? That's only an incremental step forward. Trade for Max Domi or Adam Henrique or Chris Tierney? Those are difficult moves to work out and in any event, any such trade seems like it would require too many assets that are necessary in Buffalo's rebuild. One suggestion I got from a reasonably sophisticated fan was to put Mittelstadt together with either Cozens or Thompson at RW, the rookies to take draws only on their strong side, and flanked by Johansson or Kahun, or maybe even Skinner, at LW. (Anaheim tried a similar "kid line" the second half of the season with Max Jones, Sam Steel and Troy Terry, with limited results.) But when I floated that idea in an earlier Buffalo post, a couple of onlookers said it would be a disaster defensively.

In any event, there is a five-man core here of really high-quality players, but the bottom-6 forwards in particular seem terribly soft, especially without the kids being able to make the grade at this stage of their careers. And throwing them into the fray at this early stage might stunt their growth, a la Jesse Puljujarvi or Lias Andersson.

Assuming neither Cozens nor Mitelstadt is on the roster at the start of this year kinda rules out their being ready for $2 C in 2021-2022.

You have that now? I've only left Girgensons and Larsson off the roster you have this season, and there's one forward slot open, plus the rookies probably won't be on the big club at the start.

You didn't really expect to cure your #2 C vacancy, improve the defense and get a real goaltender all at once, did you? Take away Johansen's $8 million and invest it in Lehner or Markstrom and how much are you going to have to spend elsewhere? Patience is a virtue, and Rome wasn't built in a day. I have some other clichés if you need a few.

Now that's an accurate objection, In addition to Dahlin and Jokiharju, the fact that I've signed Olofsson to a one-year show-me deal isn't as brilliant as I originally thought.

I'd love to hear your suggestions for available defensive forwards. There's one forward slot open and, as the others have discussed, there's every likelihood that all three big prospects won't be on the opening-night roster.

I feel like trading Johansen to move up 6 spots is something the Preds wouldn't do unless someone is there at 7 who can immediately come into the lineup and put up 50+ points. I could see them trading Turris to move up, but that would obviously need more to balance the trade.
