obviously this assumes no Pietro.... im trying to hunt for a close replacement for him. the trade value might be off here, but judge the basis idea and give critique on how to balance it if the basis idea works

By doing this trade, you get the offense Petro brought. Now you're just missing the defense.

I personally think that if Petro ends up walking, STL should target Savard from CBJ. They're pretty deep defensively, so Savard might be available in exchange to a C + good prospect.

makes sense. deangelo is overvalued overall in my opinion, but i would have to say similar for Thomas (not to the same extent).

if the basis overall works, what would balance it?

do you think they would want a long term solution though instead? savard makes sense, but we already know how sign and trades turn out here. i'd be afraid to extend him for too much, and even then no extension is confirmed.

blues are pretty strong on the left side for prospects, but the right is a bit thin

DeAngelo to STL makes sense but I doubt there's a chance that a trade involves Thomas, he's almost untouchable at this point. If STL wasn't a top team I would have said a 1st round pick

Yeah, other than that I think the value is close.

Seems like an "each team would keep their own" trade, though.

    Based on contract.
DeAneglo is putting up more points. Thomas wouldnt get more icetime behind Zibanejad, Strome and possibly Chytil.

i definitely agree that it's tilted their way. purpose of this thread was
    1) to see if the basis worked
    2) to balance the trade if the basis worked... in which case my question would be, what balances this?

I'd probably be thinking Howden from NYR, STL sending MacEachern.

Another big thing here is... the rangers are likely already looking to move their excess parts on the right side to fill their largest need at center. There's no way those three RHD on the rangers will be content if one of them gets third pair minutes.
It fills both teams needs almost perfectly. Just need to get the value right

Thomas is also 20 years old... lol

He is significantly better than Chytil, and his ceiling is far better than Strome. I would guess he jumps straight into second line center.

Your right side is already full. Fox and Trouba should be getting top 4 minutes. Thomas is still young.
Even though you have a lot of wingers you still take this deal fast.

Blues did it with Faulk. Who's to say they wouldn't do it with Savard as well?

For the prospect part...I think they'll be drafting Barron or Grans at their turn if they're available. Would make sense as they're both potential RHDs...

Wait, so I'm off, but that even's up the trade???

    Strome is staying with Panarin.

howden loses value by the year. he appears to be a 3rd line center at best... a 30-40 point guy. Feel free to counter with what you think evens it.

Thomas plays RW too, but to enhance his maturity in the league you might want to try him with Panarin. Shift Strome to RW just to see how it works. If not, Kreider - Zibanejad - Thomas would be a strong top line

I think you are a bit low on what Thomas can be, and a bit high on what DeAngelo will bring in the future.
Thomas could very well be a top line center. I doubt DeAngelo has a repeat of this year, though he probably will get 40-50 points year over year. Nevermind the age difference

Oh no, that deal is better than the first, for the Rangers.
There difference is the contract - so STL adds a contract that can play a bottom 6 role/bottom pair, and the Rangers can add a guy like Howden

do you really think i am offering howden for thomas?

I am narrowing in on DeAngelo AND Howden for Thomas and a lower blues prospect.

Thomas >>> DeAngelo AND he meets your largest need.

Please no, Grans is fine but Barron was so bad when I saw him this year, not in my top-90. I feel like the Blues do a good job of not reaching for position anyways.

I just don’t think the Blues would trade Thomas for anything unless it’s incredible. I don’t think he gets enough credit for how good his season was, especially the last 50 games where he was like 7th in 5v5 points/60. Plus he’s on elc for another season.

And DeAngelo is still outproducing Thomas, even when he's a third pair D-man, The different isnt that big.

i think you are missing the point... deangelo is four years older than thomas and thus has four years more time to develop. by the time thomas is 24, he will be outscoring deangelo

Late to the party, I have a team I haven't posted with Thomas for Dumba, but this is basically the same thing. It's an interesting idea, but I'd imagine New York adds.

I think St Louis goes for a cheaper RD or sign Vatanen in the event Pietrangelo walks

Absolutely, positively, thunderously hell no. Thomas is waaaaaay more valuable, on multiple levels. There's no balancing this pure lunacy. Just throw it in the trash bin, melt that sucker down to a bullet and shoot it into the sun.

So pardon me, but respectfully no way please.
