Trades with rivals means over pays and this for Petry is still an under pay, so very easy no from MTL

Way too much for one year of Petry, especially when you trade away a NHL Dman and so much more. Leafs ownership won't think 47m cash is worth a first rounder. Besides why help Florida's cap situation.

MTL and TOR are different teams in different situations. Leafs are going for a cup, and a good RD could be the difference, MTL is just trying to complete a small rebuild and aren't a LD away from being an actual contender. Not all teams will value things the same.

I think Giordano being 37 next year and not lining up at all with what MTL is trying to do right now by building through the draft has more to do with someone complaining about giving up a 1st.

It's not as simple as saying Giordano is better than Petry, there has to be a fit. To MTL, a 1st round pick is more valuable than a 37 year old defenseman. Also to MTL, Petry is more valuable than a 1st round pick, they can extend him until he is 35 and they would still have a #2 / #3 D for the next 3 seasons, possibly longer depending on how he ages and if he is extended again.

You can easily get more then a 1st for Petry. Even if you wait till the trade deadline Petry is still worth a 1st plus a prospect.

The difference there is that the 1st for Petry is likely a contenders 1st, so 25-31. MTLs pick for Gio would be in the 6-11 range. Also add in the facts that Gio is 36, Petry 32, Petry is coming off his 3rd straight 40 point season and probably would have a career high if the season resumed, while Gio was coming back down to earth in his normal point range.

So all in all I would take the guy who is 4 years younger, on a cheaper contract, and produces at a more consistent rate then Gio. Think any smart GM would to.

Something that has nothing to do with my post but sure. You can say that about any fan base though, MTL just has a larger more vocal following than most on this site.

In what way is he "far" better? Gio has one 76 point season at 35 and you think he is a regular 50+ point dman. News flash, Gio is at best a 40 point dman, and that's if he doesnt decline at all. He had a career year last year, moving forward he hasnt shown in anyway that he is better then Petry.

And Giordano to a contending team that needs a LD would like fetch more than Petry would when going to a contending team looking for RD help, what's your point? Are you upset that MTL isn't being treated as a cup contender? Are you upset the Leafs are? Seriously, Giordano to MTL is a such a wildly different scenario compared with Petry to TOR that the trade values would also see a massive difference.

Like I have said multiple times now, he has had 1 good season, other then that his decline has been evident. Go look at the stats, other then last year Petry has been better and if you're projecting the future Petry is likely to have a much better next 3 years then Gio.

Upset might not have been the right word, but when I pointed out the difference in value was do to the difference in situation the teams are in you decided to change the subject to how fans value their favourite teams players instead of continuing the discussion about teams situations changing how they evaluate trade pieces. Maybe I should have asked if you disagreed or were confused by the Leafs and Habs being viewed as they are. It was explained to you why Petry to TOR would have more value than Gio to MTL.

My understanding of the salary cap is no team can exceed it by more then 10% during the offseason so even if a CBO was implemented the trade still must be approved by the league and be cap compliant. With the leafs being so tight against the cap i wonder how much salary they are able to take on even if a CBO is a go? Obviously im looking at this bobrovski CBO and wondering if this is even a legal trade ?

No way the Habs take this. Mainly because they won't deal with their rivals and plus they can get at least this same value from another team not in the division soooo.

Please......., your vendetta against Montreal fans is so apparent and while its sometimes warranted, its not always. This is not the case.

https://awinninghabit.com/2020/02/21/carolina-hurricanes-trade-rumour-offer-jake-bean-montreal-canadiens-jeff-petry/
According to Pierre Lebrun, the Carolina Hurricanes made an offer for Jeff Petry. Said offer would have Petry jump divisions in exchange for Jake Bean and a first-round pick.

https://www.hockeyinsiders.net/articles/elliotte-friedman-gives-update-regarding-jeff-petr/
According to Friedman, Bergevin could move Petry if it involves landing a first round pick and a prospect and he points out that the Vegas Golden Knights have been scouting Petry recently.

Its not just Habs fans pulling this price out of their butts. It has been reported about. IF you don't want to pay that price, don't. No one is forcing anyone but its not out of left field and there have been reports of good deals being offered but MB simply turning them down because he wants to try and win and trading Petry away would be a massive detriment to winning.

I think the problem is Toronto fans value Dermott and Brooks more than other teams fans do. That's why this deal wouldn't work for Habs fans. Not to mention that the 1st isn't even this years... which should be the biggest selling point.

I mean never really said it was or wasn’t fair value for him just asking why that was the case for valuing players and of that’s what team are offering for petry and got turned down don’t think that was the right move seeing mtl will probably just be a avg team and not really looking at their future but who knows

Confused maybe was tryna get a answer to why gio value was lower then petry for some reason because it was mainly mtl fans valuing him so low and it wasn’t just him going to mtl it was gio going to a couple teams only thing I’d think of is age but whatever.

Habs pass, Leafs need to include at least one good young player/top prospect with a potential late 1st rounder ... not some journeyman AHLer or bottom-six d-man
