Guess what happens in this 24 team idea.... 8 teams play a 3 game play in series and poof they’re right back to the normal playoffs. 16 teams 7 game series.
why should 8 teams have to play? 2 of those teams have already secured a playoff spot. and 2 are already out.
The only teams that should be playing are the last two teams for a playoff spot. And only if they can actually justify they had a chance of making it.
You take a team like FL, you give them 2 points to get to 70 games and they are still behind TOR at 70 games. They are out. They didn't make the cut.
I listed the only teams that have a legit gripe with cutting the season short and playing. If you couldn't figure it out in 70 games too bad.
These is no reason teams should have to fight over the last 4 wild card spots. One of those teams in each conference has earned it. No reason a team like CAR shouldn't get an automatic bid. And I'm not a CAR fan. It's their spot. at 68 games they have more points than anyone else. and did it in fewer games than CBJ. It's their spot. No need for them to compete for it. They earned it.
CBJ could legitimately be passed up by the NYI though. So they deserve to play off for it. 1 game, done.
What I don't see is why the rangers who at 70 games are 2 points out deserve a chance to play. They don't. They don't qualify.
