Description
Just wanted to see how TB could possibly keep their RFA's if the cap stays flat and there is no CBO. Vasilevsky is the answer, TB did not give him any trade protection in the first year of his contract and then he has a NMC after the first year, it would make sense if this was their plan.

I went with Detroit because they need a starting goalie, they have the cap space, but I doubt Detroit is a very attractive option to free agents right now. Also there is the connection with yzerman. Vasilevsky would give Detroit a solid young goalie for the next 8 years, a 25 year old with a Vezina already.

Vasy staying, the contract might look bad, but that because the other goalies are in their 30's while Vasy is 25 Will still be in his prime

Try more like 7 x 7 for Lehner, Detroit's not trading Hronek for a overpaid Vasilevskiy, Detroit can draft Askarov whom will be better. Both Cirelli and Sergachev get 3 x 5.5 minimally.

Goalie prospects take a lot of time, and the red wings already have Filip Larsson, also the it will be a min of 3*4.5 for Cirelli and Sergachev, gourde had a higher PPG in the 17-18 season than Cirelli this season and was still good when he got his contract when November of 2018. Cirelli and Sergachev are right now overrated

Ok, so if Vasilevsky isn't going anywhere you don't get Hronek (assuming a deal like this could get done) and you most likely lose one of Sergachev or Cirelli (in less you have another idea) what do you do?

Lehner was voted 3rd for the Vezina in 2018-19 and was rewarded with a one year $5M contract. What did he do this year to get $7M × 7 yrs? Who even has $7M to give him? He can get more than $5M, but everyone takes discounts to go to TB because of taxes and they are contenders. Between Lehner, Markstrom, and Holtby TB will get somebody to take a discount.

I don't know if DET would trade Hronek, but it would take a good player to get Vasilevsky, see the response from the two TB fans in this thread, "Not trading Vasilevsky". As for DET not competing next year... Vasilevksy is 25. If they ever compete in the next 8 year Vasilevsky will still be in prime years.

No one saying his contract is bad, TB just needs to consider all options to create cap space if they want to keep their RFA's.

See my other reply on Lehner 7 × 7. How does DET draft Askarov, trading up to get another pick in the 1st round? Askarov is no guarantee either so not sure how you can say "he will be better" than a 25 year old who already won a Vezina. I'm not a TB fan, they get their guys to sign cheap. Sergachev and Cirelli get that much elsewhere, but in TB they get closer to $4M I think.

Colorado aren't giving you Kaut for that return. It's going to be a buyers market and Tampa will be under pressure to make trades in a flat cap league. Maybe Jost + 2nd/3rd would work.

Jost is going to make around $2m. His is comparables are Bennett ($2.55m/2 years) and Crouse $1.5m/3 years).

Why doesnt detroit just sign Lehner? And keep Hronek... Trades like this dont happen until better options in UFAs are gone.

Tampa is a great example of how massive goalie contracts are team killers.

Maybe they pull a rabbit out of their hat, but they are looking at losing several key members of a contending team due to overpaying a goalie.

Hronek isn't going to be traded and with the number of players the need to resign they can't even afford him. I agree with littlejerryseinfeld bad goalie contracts are team killers. My advice don't offer a goalie that much for that long.

Or Hope that a CBO happen. i mean no one complaining about McDavid's contract and his health problem, Draisaitl is a same point producer, just no health problem and a 8.5 cap hit

agreed. Vasy is a bit younger, but look how dumb my Devils look for throwing Schnieder into almost a decade of dumpster fire. Stevie Y may turn the ship around quicker than others could, but they effectively wont even start their rebuild until this year due to dead cap preventing them from being legitimately active.
