Description
Domi for Brodin has been a popular swap on here.. This feels like an overpayment by Minnesota, but jumping from #11 OA to #8 OA gives them a much better chance of grabbing someone like Rossi or Lundell.

Maybe I'm wrong, but with Suzuki, Danault, KK, and Poehling, it doesn't seem like Montreal would need to target one of those centers that could likely get taken in the second half of the top 10. Donato could potentially fill in a top 6 role in their offense, which would be the opportunity it seems like he needs to shine. Brodin is a huge upgrade to the left side of their defense and an extension for him should come at a similar cost to what Domi will get.

This trade seems right on value to me but I predict at least one Montreal fan will say "take out Domi"

I'm still not thrilled about the idea of a Domi for Brodin swap but it's a fair trade

A trade Domi vs Brodin would be probably 1 on 1 or maybe small pieces added to even the thing out. To move from 11 to the 8th spot will cost you lot more then Donato. Moving up in the draft since the new millennium have cost generaly the same thing and each time the team that was moving up had to gave up their first round selection that was a couple spot behing a early second round pick and a third round pick. ( devon setoguchi, logan couture, Colin Wilson, Andrew Ladd are a few example.) Minnesota would have to had a second round pick at least to get the 8th overall pick. Brodin have been a good top 4 just like Domi have been a good top 6 forward. Domi is younger and fill a need for Minnesota just like Brodin would fill a need in Montreal.

Don't worry at number 8, you could finally get the centre's you need in perfetti and lundell

Yeah, Domi is certainly not my first choice for trying to fill the hole we have at C, but my thought was this preps us a little better for the Seattle expansion draft. Then we'll probably only lose someone like Greenway or Soucy while giving us a better shot at drafting a prospect that could maybe one day become that #1 C.

The main goal here would be to trade Domi for Brodin. Adding high end 1st rounders just feels like overkill.

There's no need for each teams 1sts to be involved here.

There's a perfectly good reason I added them if you read the team explanation.

Domi for Brodin, sure, I doubt MTL does it before seeing what Romanov can do right out of the gate but it's fair enough value. Donato is a bottom 6 lefty, and MTL has enough of those, so he doesn't get you from 11OA to 8OA.

I read it. I just don't agree with that explanation. I'll gladly take the player at 8, regardless if its a center or not. BPA especially in a deep draft. If Rossi/Holtz or whomever is as good as they say, I'll gladly trade Domi/Drouin/Danault, etc. separately to accommodate them. Heck maybe even one of the young centers like Suzuki/KK/Poehling. Survival of the fittest. Whomever is worthy of that position the most. The others can be shifted to wing or traded at that time.

This feels like its serving Minny more than it does Montreal. Adding Brodin to a long term contract while having Mete plus up and comers like Romanov/Norlinder/Struble etc then drafting Sanderson is no different than having KK/Suzuki/Poehling/2020 1st center down the middle. Having too much top quality of anything is a good problem to have.

Not interested in a Domi/Brodin swap. Domi is more valuable. Obviously the Habs downgrading picks makes no sense. This trade is far from fair.

That's fair, maybe it doesn't make sense for Montreal, but the firsts being included is the only reason for Minnesota to make this specific trade.

I feel Brodin and Domi are fair swaps. The only reason anyone thinks otherwise is the 19-20 season. One guy finished strong while one guy didn't. If you would have asked anyone during the past off season if Brodin for Domi was a fair swap. Everyone would be saying no way. In favor of Montreal.

Both Brodin and Domi's perceived value remain heavily in what they've done recently. That's the problem. Last year, I guarantee I can find notable Minny fan posters on here trading Brodin for a couple 2nds or Lehkonen and a pick. What changed? One good season. Just like Domi last year.

It makes sense for Minny to move Brodin now while his perceived value is at an all time high. It doesn't for Montreal with Domi. That's why I don't see the Habs making any trade with Brodin for Domi and then adding anything significant with it. Adding anything major would be selling Domi low and buying Brodin high which in the trading world is a bad strategy.

That's why this makes sense for Minny but not for Montreal. Brodin is just Domi last year IMO.

That's a pretty horrible take... Domi had one breakout year that he failed to backup this season, so I'll agree, that may be selling low if he can manage to put up those numbers again. But Brodin was as comparably good this year as he was in 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17, and 2017-18, so saying this season was just some anomaly and the Wild are "selling high" on him all of a suddent is a pretty poor consideration of his entire career.

That's your take. I don't know many ppl who would have paid what Minny fans thinks Brodin is worth this year, last year.

Go back to last year if you can and check other Minny fans AGM's. The proof is in the pudding. Brodin wasn't being traded for two firsts and a top prospect. He was being peddled for less then he probably was worth because at the end of the day, he is a good player. Im not dismissing that. Just that his perceived value is coming off a big season in which he had his best career season. How convenient. No different than Domi last year.

Both are good players. One guy is coming off a career high. The other is coming off a disappointing post career high season. A lot of this is perceived value for both players.
