Description
Just got my wisdom teeth out, throught id throw my hat into the ring with a Painkiller ACGM.

Trying to convert 2nds and cap space into mid round 1sts, and I know I still need to do something with the D... just not sure what. I also think Russel/Perrault and Stepan could all maybe be moved at the deadline for a pick or something back...

WPG: Cap dump in useless winger Perrault for RFA C who wont immediately leave them like Hayes and Stasny, they recoup a bit of pick value because their draft spot is highest (Considering Vesalainen after comments)

NSH: Dumping 4 years of Turris @ 6M will be costly. OTT is willing to take the hit because the community loves him, I think he was being poorly used in NSH (One commenter is saying that Turris is looking more like his old self, maybe not?)

ARI: 6.5M for a guy producing so poorly is hard to move. They get RFA C/W who put up >30pt pace on the 4th line of one of the worst teams and a bit of pick value in the form of a 2nd in w year that they already gave up their 1st. Top 10 protected

STL: This one I am least sure about. They need the cap space, and Allen has been very spotty in the past. His last year has been better though. I dont know... Nilson isnt much worse and they get 3M in cap, all while only moving down ~15 spots

EDM: Keeping a 1st was important to EDM. They get CBrown, and only move down 10 spots. Dump some cap in Russel to make space on their Blueline for the kids coming up next year.

The one you are the least sure about is the only one that makes any sort of sense. Everyone except for St Louis hangs up and blocks you, and for that one I'll let their fans decide

If you want to look at a very comparable deal for the Edmonton trade, Detroit only had to move back 4 spots AND managed an additional send pick from Arizona when they flipped the last year of Datsyuk to the Coyotes. What you've done here is genuine highway robbery, and Edmonton declines without hesitating.

Russell and the #20 pick should be good enough for the #30 pick and the NYI 2nd Rounder that you'd have left. Connor Brown is not worth more than Puljujarvi and the Edmonton third rounder.

Im very very surprised that you dont think Connor Brown is worth more than Poolparty and a 3rd. 50pt winger, plays both sides, is RFA and has built in chemistry with your franchise player.

4 years is too long for Ottawa to take on, even if it's Turris.

If he gets bought out, by all means sign him to a deal for 1-2 years, but I'm not taking that contract.

Those teams arent going to pay that much for cap dumps with players that are still somewhat productive. Winnipeg doesnt have a good enough pipeline to afford trading away their first, Anisimov isnt useful either and they could find somebody else to take Turris for cheaper, Arizona might not even make the playoffs so trading their 2c with a 1st round pick is counterproductive for them, and EDM taking back Connor Brown doesnt shed enough salary to warrant moving up that far in the draft

As a jets fan I say no to this deal. It’s not an awful proposition, but jets aren’t going to be starved for cap space, so no reason to get rid of a solid 3rd liner. Also that 1st founder likely lands us a guy like Connor Zary which imo has more potential than tierney. I also don’t see tierney as a 2c, he’s a good 3c, and an average 2c at his very best. Would rather keep our 1st and trade for a 2c with our other assets like Vesalainen and roslovic.

Puljujarvi's a projected 30 point player in the NHL ONLY IF he's the best player on his team. That's how NHLe works. Considering he won't be the best player on his team, a guess of somewhere in the ballpark of half a point per game is pretty reasonable. You get the younger, cheaper player. That gap isn't worth more than a third round pick.

1. WPG has traded their first away the last 3 years for rental C. This is a distinct upgrade to a trade they have shown a propensity to complete.

2. Anisimov has very comparable if not better numbers to Turris, comparable age, is chearper they are in their window now, they need the cap and Turris is too expensive. I 100% know that they could not find anyone to take that contract for less.

3. Its not this years but next, and place any top 10 protections on it they want. Arizona's ownership has shown to be growing very unsatisfied with their performance despite the fact they are now a spending team. ARI is looking for a cap dump, and this is the best way for them to achieve it.

4. It is possible I am overvaluing CBrown. RFA, RW/LW, Plays PK, 50pt and has established chemistry with McDavid.

Okay, thats terrific and actionable feedback. I thought them completely off the table considering that those were 2 of the sticking points in the potential Stone trade, I assumed your 1st was more viable.

You know you gave 2 seconds for AA right? I think you are seriously overvaluing picks. Look at the expected NHL production of a mid 3rd

Not nearly as much as you're overvaluing Brown. He was on pace to just miss the 50-point plateau this year; considering this is the only season he's managed that and there's no guarantee he plays in a similar role next season, Edmonton shouldn't be paying for the "maybe he puts up a bunch of points if you saddle him with McDavid" argument. I'd pay third-line rate for Brown, because that's what his career suggests he is. A swap of third liners and the pick going to Ottawa because Brown is the "proven" asset is more than fair.

I think your evaluation is off. Pageau got 1/2/3. AA got two 2nds. Barclay Goodrow got a 1st. Coleman got a 1st. Older, lesser producing, less chemistry. Brown would come in and be your 5th best forward. (McDavid/Drai/Poolparty/Yamamoto)

Can you elaborate?

Hes being paid 6M, was healthy scratched, only getting 15mins when he is playing and is playing to a 42 point pace. I dont see a space behind Duchene and Johansen.

After this year, big no on that for the Blues. Allen did very well at producing good numbers this year. He might not be worth 4.35M, but it's 1 year and he did pretty well this year so Blues can probably get a 2nd-3rd round pick for him if they add in a mid-tier prospect.

Incorrect. They traded away their first 2 years in a row - for Stastny and Hayes. They got the Hayes pick back in the Trouba deal. Tiernay is not nearly enough of an upgrade at 2C vs Copp, Little, Lowry and/or Roslovic to trade away a 1st. And Perrault is NOT useless. Just overpaid for the role he has on the team.

3. Its not this years but next, and place any top 10 protections on it they want. Arizona's ownership has shown to be growing very unsatisfied with their performance despite the fact they are now a spending team. ARI is looking for a cap dump, and this is the best way for them to achieve it.

The "best way" to achieve a cap dump? By trading away yet another 1st round pick? Easy no.

I know after this year it would be a bigger ask.

They way I saw it, getting Nilson and not having to add a B prospect is about the same as a late 1st (If you go back to the 17/18/19 drafts only 1 player taken in the last 8 has more than 10 points in the NHL).

You guys are in your window now, I figure an NHL prospect reaching maturity for you in 2024 wont be needed as much as Cap/Nilsson are now

Sorry, this would be the third year. Not last 3 years, okay, so trade us back for the pick if you wanted it. Reacquiring the pick later isnt a reason that the first trade was a logical failing.

Tierney put up more points, while younger, on a worse team, while getting more defensive zone starts. He is a decided increase on every single one of them. Perreault isnt good, by advanced metrics nor conventional. Useless, overpaid, you can call him whatever you want, it costs to dump cap.

Again, 1st round picks are literally traded all the time. More than 1/4 of the 1st rounds picks in this years draft are owned by other teams. If Capfriendly was to believed, 1st would never be traded.

Im literally not going to argue about this any more. If you dont think they *need* to dump cap, then make that argument, but dont argue the price of a cap dump. To dump 6M costs a 1st. If theyre somewhat NHL capable, you get something coming back. Get over it.

Sorry but this opinion is very wrong. Connor Brown is still under team control and solid on both ends of the ice and puts up 45-55pts. He’s worth at least what u paid for AA.

I see some others have already commented on this - but to add, Poile doesn't do deals like this. He got a weak return for Subban (before we all saw his decline this season) just so he wouldn't need to retain salary. He wouldn't want to lose the 1st and may as well try Turris for another year and see if he gets taken by Seattle if need be.
