Description
Artificial cap of $65M because Ottawa.

Draft Lafreniere (used a simulation) first overall, Drysdale at #5 (dropped 2 spots), move up in draft to get Rossi at #7, and Schneider at #21.

To get Rossi, they take on 3 years of Okposo and Buffalo gets cap space and the 18th overall (NYI pick). Pick up Jarry and/or Cory Schneider for depth.

Finally, add a “top” C of Turris. Turris and Okposo are in Ottawa to rehab carriers and get moved in next 2 years. Tkachuk insulates Lafreniere and Norris moves up to play with Lafreniere.

If Ryan not on IR then Formenton or McKegg can be sent down.

buffalo is in desperate need of high end talent. we will not move back 11 spots just to move on from Okposo, especially when we take Anisimov. We have 30+ million in cap space

Why would Ottawa draft Drysdale? They need some high end forward prospects. Sens used a 1st rd pick on a RD in the past two years and a 2nd rd pick in 2018 as well. They already got Chabot and Brannstrom. No need to use a top 5 pick on a defenseman given the offensive talent in this draft. I'm not familiar with the 2021 draft class but the Sens will probably have another top 10 pick and could use it on a defenseman if they want to add to that position

They actually used 2 1sts on RHD the last 2 drafts. Bernard Docker and Thomson. Plus traded for Brannstrom who was a 2017 1st. They should go after Schneider/Barron/Grans/Niemela with their later picks or even Kleven. But I want Ottawa to take 2 of Laf, Byfield, Stutzle, Raymond, Rossi

Agree here. Buffalo should draft Rossi behind Eichel and move to Cozens to wing. That would be elite

How many 5'9" centers are there in the NHL?

I don’t know but they don’t call him Gretzby for nothing. He has a lot of strength in his lower body and doesn’t get knocked off the puck easily. Plus he plays a 200ft game

That might be the most interesting Turris trade I've seen, could be a great deal. What's the story on Brown?

If Ottawa was being strategic, amassing D depth and prospects would create more TDL and off season trade options. Additionally two of the players they drafted have not signed and could well try to wait out their eligibility window and sign elsewhere (Bernard-Docker and Tychonick) which would leave the team with no depth. Too much better than none - especially with a D first (apparent) strategy and coach.

Buffalo has 13 spots and like 20 players (with the draft) to sign. How many RFAs due a raise? Maybe Okposo isn’t a trade option but $6M for single digit goal scorer is a lot.

Mitch Marner was a under 6’ center in the minors with great speed, playmaking and hands. He plays wing in the NHL and was a major reason that Tavares sign in Toronto. Rossi could move to the wing and take a year or two to move up.

Not sure if drafting another scorer that’s not NHL ready is helping Buffalo. They are running a real risk of having players want out with more losing seasons. I think Rossi would be good for any team - but they may want more immediate and proven help.
