Description
So no franchise altering moves here.

Kerfoot gives the Wild the 3rd line center they need with cost control.
Wild take a small gamble on Puljujärvi in hopes he can find his stride in the NHL.

Acquiring Allen is a idea passed on to me from @OldNYIfan, seems to fit a need.

The idea behind this plan really is the money saved and the assets not lost. So when Eichel or Barkov get sick of their current situation the Wild should be in a position to make a nice offer.

Pretty realistic unfortunately. Kerfoot would be so underwhelming. I'd love getting rid of Zuccarello's contract and Puljujarvi interest me a lot more now than he did a year ago.

Can't do that Donato is the bait in the Zuccarello deal.

Is there any other thing you'd like for the Zucc deal? Or is it specifically the 3C.

All I'm trying to do is rid the Wild of the Zuccarello contract and address the lack of center depth. If you see another way out I am listening.

3-Way deal?

Toronto gives up Kerfoot and gets Donato and a 4th.

Minny gives up Donato, Zuccarelo (retained), and gets JP in return.

Edmonton gives up JP and a 4th and gets Zuccarello. Edmonton then signs a UFA C as they aren't as worried about age.

I'm confused as to why Wild fans think Donato is so valuable. He's getting older and he hasn't proven all that much. Seems like he is losing value rather than gaining it; becoming more of a bottom six than middle six forward... even more given that there isn't really a clear place for him on this team.

I do think this trade is fair, but I would hardly consider Donato as "bait"

I really like that Blues swap too. It's a good build, I just want clarity on Donato. I value him around a high 3rd or late 2nd.

I don't disagree perhaps bait is a poor choice of words perhaps sweetener is correct.

Most Wild fans have about the same value for Donato as that. He's an add to deal, not something to build anything more thank a minor deal around. He's a "lots of tools, but no toolbox guy" most of the time.

I do think Wild fans would like to see him get a chance somewhere else. MN just has so many wings he's buried. He does have a knack for scoring goals.

I'd rather see the Donato+4th for Kerfoot that was suggested.

Skip the Blues trade. You trade Stalock then goalie KK is the only expansion draft eligible goalie on the team, so he would be exposed (and probably taken). If you made the Tor trade too MN could be down to Robson as the only goalie in the system next offseason.

As much as I want to get rid of Zucc I don;t see it happening with his NMC.

Agree with "wabit" above that Zuccarello's NMC kills a deal to Oilers, and a lot of teams. Plus do the Oilers even want Zucc's cap at 3m for 4 years?

Im not convinced Zuccarello wouldnt want to go to Edmonton. He has to see he’s a poor fit for the Wild and unwanted by most fans. Add to this the opportunity to play alongside McDavid and/or Draisaitl and for a team ready to contend for the Cup now...i think he would have to at least consider it...
As for Kerfoot, i think you are offering way too much for his services. I dont think i would give up either piece of your trade for him in a 1:1 trade, much less both.
I love the Puljujarvi trade and think he would be a great addition to the Wild’s roster...especially when using two left-shot forwards to get him!
IF this was the Wild’s roster next season, i would like to try JEEK in between Fiala and Kaprizov. He could do all the heavy lifting at both ends of the ice and allow those two to do their things in the offensive zone. I bet he’d rack up 50 assists too. I really think the sum of their parts playing together would (potentially) be a nightmare matchup for most lines in the league!

Ridiculous! Where does Edmonton find $6.4M cap space to fit in you old, overpaid winger? You'd have to take James Neal back or no deal.

I can't speak for if the Oilers would want Zuccarello's cap hit but I think he would make a good wing for Draisaitl. Zuccarello has only spent 1 season in Minnesota so doubt he is attached to the place I think his NMC is more about not being stuck in a place like Ottawa and likely Seattle. I would think the chance to play with McDavid and Draisaitl would excite most players.

As far as the Allen trade goes I would think a extension wouldn't be impossible. I'm sure he wants to start if that's Minnesota or Seattle I'm sure makes little difference. If I'm Seattle I'm looking at Pens, Rangers, and Jackets.

That’s a bit of an exaggeration. Outside of this forum, I’ve never heard a person complain much about him.

@Paul13 You know this is just going to inspire Leaf fans to think Kerfoot is worth 2 2nds to the Wild. Jones had a good season in juniors, I’d hold on to him.

Yeah, I had consider making it Jones and a 2nd for Kerfoot and a 3rd.
The 3-way trade offered up on here by @firezfurx is really a better trade.
I think the trade works for most everyone just not sure the Oilers cap works.

I think you’re probably right that my statement is a bit of an exaggeration but most fans don’t analyze teams as deeply as people (hockey nerds) like us do and the vast majority of them think Zuccarello is swell because he’s a big name and they believe every word the Wild’s marketing team shoves down their throats.

I don't think they should have signed him, he's a good player but call it what it was: a desperate GM felt he needed to sign someone after losing out on Kessel and Pavelski. Short term maybe they needed a Granlund replacement in case Fiala didn't immediately replace Granlund's productivity (which he didn't immediately), but he further clogs their young forward's room for development playing in meaningful roles. But yeah, I don't think Zucc is aware of any negative sentiment towards him and Minnesota is a good market to play in really. I'm sure he's happy here. Good fans who come out for the games, no championship expectations and you're back home enjoying your summer by May. wink
