The thing is Matt Tkachuk is a former top 6 pick and is arguably the 3rd-4th best players of that draft thus far. What could possibly make Matt Tkachuk more valuable than either lottery pick is the fact he's a proven Elite player. Anyway, Sens are better off with getting A+ prospect on ELC than M. Tkachuk, especially with Melnyk running around the organization.

The Oiler's are an excellent example of why Quality > Quantity is good.

What makes the pick more valuable is 8 years of control instead of 3 and 3 years of ELC.

Look at the cup winners last year. They have no McDavid but they have excellent depth in every position.

Just because you have one doesn't mean you can't have the other. Of course most cup teams have good depth; it's important, but you know what they also have? Star players. And who leads the way in the regular season and playoffs? Star players. There is a Hart Trophy for a reason. Elite players drive results and in some cases drag ****ty teams kicking and screaming to the playoffs. There is no argument that Quantity > Quality in a trade.
