What are you talking about? Ottawa takes 5.25M in salary for basically 0. How is that fair?

You forgot that Buffalo's 2nd is very close to the 1st round (inside the top 40 picks). How much do you think Murray is worth anyways?

Buffalo trade is close value wise. Pittsburgh rejects cause they don't need RHD they would prefer a pick or a RW.

Ottawa takes a big L on the Bjugstad trade

Pittsburgh takes a MASSIVE L on the Colorado trade.

So from buffalo, our idiot gm gave up a late first and brendan guhle (who at the time was probably worth a 2nd) to get montour, who he then adds another 2nd to, to acquire a goalie. For a team that gets no production from their bottom nine forwards. The move here is pray for league average production in goal, hope that a couple of the 50 d that you drafted in the last 3 years pan out sooner than later, find at least one middle 6 center that knows where his zone is, and spend any other reasonable asset on skaters up front. Otherwise, we will continue to have second round picks in the top 40 every year.

Agreed on majority. OTT doesnt gain much for 1 year of Bjugstad. Im still really high on Murray. Hes their starting goalie. Pittsburgh just needs a competent defense in front of him. And pittsburgh is giving up young pieces for a young guy who hasn't done much so far, so theres no point

How is it fair.
Go ask them about the Callahan trade. Maybe you'll start to understand it.
The get free cap space for 1 year that they don't have to carry forward. For a team that WILL need help to reach cap floor.
They don't take a "big L" on any of it. The get exactly what they wanted. Savings of real money.

You keep wanting to talk about the buf trade I don't know why. Penguins have 2 top RHD. One gets paid next year.
There is no conversation here to be had. They need a 5 mil 3rd pairing defense man like they need a new hole in their head. What part of that is hard to figure out. Teams DO have a salary cap. They can't just take any contract for the hell of it. No team in the league wants to pay their 3rd pairing guy 5 million for the next 4 years. He's not a fit.

Why do we need Montour for $5M?? 3rd pairing D should make $3M or less...
Last time I checked, Letang/Marino are amazing...
